On the night of November 14, 1995, the night was already very deep and cold, with a strong wind blowing.

A bus slowly pulled out of the Yuanmingyuan bus terminal and came to a stop beside the Yuanmingyuan South Gate bus station. This was the last bus of the night.

There was an older driver and a young female conductor on the bus. When the doors opened, four passengers got on: a young couple, an elderly lady, and a young man. The young couple sat together in the double seat behind the driver, while the young man and the elderly lady sat in the single seats on the right side near the front door. The bus started moving, heading towards its final destination, Xiangshan.

The night seemed even more quiet. All that could be heard was the rumbling of the engine. There were hardly any other vehicles or pedestrians on the road. After all, it was late November in Beijing, and the area was quite remote.

As the bus continued on, after about two stops and just over 300 meters past the Beigongmen Station, everyone heard the driver curse loudly: "At this time, there's usually not even a ghost around. What the hell! And they're not even at the bus stop." That's when everyone saw two dark figures waving at the bus from about 100 meters away. "We should stop," the conductor said. "It's so cold outside, and this is the last bus anyway." (It's worth noting that at that time, there was only one bus on the Yuanmingyuan-Xiangshan route, and no taxi driver would take such a remote road so late at night.)

The bus stopped, and two more people got on—no, make that three. The third person was being supported by the other two, who were dressed in what looked like Qing Dynasty official robes and had pale faces. They didn't say a word. The person in the middle had disheveled hair and kept his head down. Everyone was frightened and tense, but the driver continued driving. "Don't be afraid, everyone," the conductor said. "They're probably actors from a period drama nearby. They must have gotten drunk and didn't have time to change their clothes." Everyone calmed down after hearing this, except for the elderly lady, who kept turning her head and staring seriously at the three people in the back. The bus kept moving...

After another three or four stops, the road was still quiet, and the wind was still strong. The young couple had gotten off at the previous stop. The driver and conductor were chatting and laughing when suddenly the elderly lady stood up and started hitting the young man in front of her, shouting that he had stolen her wallet when they got on. The young man got angry and shouted back at her, "You're so old, how can you lie like that?" The elderly lady didn't speak, but glared at him and grabbed his collar tightly. The young man was flustered and couldn't say anything. The elderly lady said, "The police station is ahead. Let's go there and sort this out!" The young man replied, "Fine, let's go. Who's afraid?"

The bus stopped, and the elderly lady dragged the young man off. As they watched the bus drive away, the elderly lady let out a sigh of relief.

The young man impatiently asked, "Where's the police station?"

The elderly lady replied, "Forget the police station! I saved your life!"

The young man was confused. "Saved my life? What are you talking about? I'm fine!"

The elderly lady said, "The three people who got on later weren't people. They were ghosts!"

The young man laughed. "You must be crazy. I'm the one who's really seeing ghosts here!" He turned to leave, but the elderly lady stopped him. "Let me finish," she said. "I had my doubts about them as soon as they got on, so I kept looking back. By chance, the wind from the window blew up the robes of the two people, and I saw that they didn't have legs!"

The young man stared at her in shock, sweating and speechless. The elderly lady said, "What are you waiting for? Call the police!"

The next day, the bus terminal reported that the last bus and its driver and conductor were missing. The police quickly found the young man and the elderly lady, who had been reported as possibly mentally unstable the night before.

Two hours later, the young man and the elderly lady were located.

That night, both Beijing Evening News and Beijing News quickly reported the shocking news and conducted on-site interviews with the young man and the elderly lady.

The next day, the police found the missing bus near the Miyun Reservoir, over 100 kilometers away from Xiangshan, with three severely decomposed bodies inside.

Even more puzzling questions arose.

First, it was impossible for the bus to travel over 100 kilometers after running all day. The police also discovered that the fuel tank did not contain gasoline but blood.

Second, it was inexplicable that the bodies had decomposed so severely in less than two days. Even in summer, this would not happen. The autopsy confirmed it was not due to human intervention.

Third, after a strict check of all the surveillance cameras at the intersections leading to Miyun, the police found nothing.
