Black Pond

At the edge of y. Intrigued by the legends of the Black Pond, he decided to visit it one night, ignoring the warnings of the villagers. He thought the eerie atmosphere might spark his creativity.

The night was moonless, the sky choked with thick, dark clouds. Rajib arrived at the pond with a flashlight in hand. The air was heavy with silence, broken only by the occasional hoot of an owl and the soft lapping of water against the shore. He sat by the pond, opened his notebook, and began to write. But as his pen moved across the paper, he heard a faint voice calling his name.

"Who's there?" Rajib's heart skipped a beat. The voice seemed to rise from the depths of the pond. He shone his flashlight across the water, but there was nothing there. The voice came again, clearer this time. "Rajib..."

His blood ran cold. He hadn’t told anyone he was coming here. Who could be calling him? He stepped closer to the water's edge and peered into the darkness. The beam of his flashlight caught something beneath the surface—a face. It was a woman, her hair floating like seaweed, her eyes completely black. She smiled, and her voice echoed, "Pull me out..."

Rajib stumbled backward, dropping his flashlight. He tried to run, but his feet felt rooted to the ground. The woman rose from the water, her white sari clinging to her body, soaked and darkened. She glided toward him, her voice a haunting whisper. "You will pull me out..."

"Who are you? What do you want?" Rajib's voice trembled.

The woman's smile widened, but her eyes remained empty. "I am trapped here. They threw me into this pond long ago. Free me..."

Rajib felt an inexplicable pull, as if her words had ensnared him. "How can I free you?"

"Find my bones," she said. "They lie at the bottom of this pond. Bring them to me, or you will be trapped here too..."

Rajib felt as though he were in a nightmare, but the woman was undeniably real. She reached out to him, and he felt an icy grip on his soul. He knew he had no choice. He stepped into the pond, the water freezing cold, like liquid ice. He took a deep breath and dove beneath the surface, groping blindly in the darkness. After what felt like an eternity, his hands brushed against something hard. He grabbed it and surfaced, clutching a pile of human bones.

He climbed out of the pond, shivering and gasping for air. The woman stood before him, her smile gone. "Thank you," she said softly. "Now I am free." Slowly, she began to fade, dissolving into the mist like a shadow at dawn.

Rajib buried the bones near the pond and left the village the next morning. The villagers noticed something strange—the water of the Black Pond had turned clear, as if the darkness had been lifted. They whispered that the ghost was gone. But Rajib knew the truth. He never returned to the village, but he carried the story with him—the tale of the woman in the Black Pond.
