The Vanishing Light
In 2160, a city lost its sun—and something darker rose from the shadows.
By the year 2160, the city of Lumina was known as the "City of Light." Towering solar arrays stretched across the horizon, harvesting endless energy from the sun to power its gleaming skyscrapers and endless neon streets. The citizens lived without fear of darkness, basking in a perpetual glow.
But one morning, the sun didn’t rise.
At first, the city thought it was a technical failure — a massive malfunction in the solar grids or the weather-control systems. Scientists scrambled to find answers, but no sensor detected the sun’s return. A thick, unnatural darkness cloaked the entire city.
With the absence of sunlight, the atmosphere changed. Shadows grew longer, denser, and seemed to move on their own. Streetlights flickered as if struggling against an invisible force.
Among the frightened citizens was Aria Chen, a solar engineer who worked in the city’s power core. Determined to restore the light, she volunteered to investigate the underground solar storage facility—a massive structure where the city stored reserves of sunlight energy.
Descending into the facility, Aria found the power core humming weakly, its batteries drained beyond reason. But deeper inside, something else was stirring.
Dark tendrils of shadow crept along the walls, pulsing like living veins. The temperature dropped drastically, and whispers echoed in the silence—calling her name, luring her deeper.
Her lights flickered and went out.
In the pitch black, Aria felt cold breath on her neck and hands brushing past her skin—something unseen, but very real.
Frantically, she activated her emergency beacon, but the signal was swallowed by the shadows.
Suddenly, glowing eyes opened all around her, revealing the creatures of the darkness—figures made of pure shadow, with twisted faces frozen in silent screams.
They whispered of the sun’s death and their rise from the void. They were the Eclipsed, entities that fed on light and life, freed now that the city’s eternal sun had vanished.
Aria fought to escape, but the shadows reached for her, pulling her deeper into the darkness.
Outside, the city fell into chaos. Without sunlight, people lost hope, and fear spread like wildfire.
The government broadcasted warnings to stay indoors, but many vanished in the night, swallowed by the creeping shadows.
As days passed, the darkness began to encroach beyond the city limits, creeping across the world like a living plague.
No one knew if the sun would ever return—or if the Eclipsed would consume all light, turning the world into eternal night.
In the darkness, only whispers remain—warning that the light is fragile, and when it fades, the shadows rise.
