The Unlikeliest of Places to Encounter the Paranormal
From supermarkets to fast food restaurants, these are the last places you’d expect to see a ghost

When we think of haunted places, the first thing that might come to mind is an old cemetery with centuries old gravestones, the words long faded to decipher. Or we might think of an old run down house. Walk into a centuries old house and if you’re a believer in the paranormal, you might wonder if you’re sharing this house with a spirit.
However, the supernatural world isn’t exclusive to centuries old houses and cemeteries. Ghosts have been reported in places where you’d least expect to encounter the paranormal.
The Grocery Store
The grocery store is an ideal place to find everything you need for your next family gathering. Definitely not the kind of place to find the paranormal. Or is it?
In one such supermarket in Massachusetts, the spectral figure of a young woman wearing a white Victorian era cap and gown has been seen by store employees and customers alike. One such employee and surely others have searched the aisles for the woman out of curiosity but of course, turned up nothing.
Believers in the paranormal swore what they saw was real as the Victorian era woman appeared and vanished before their eyes. Skeptics only laughed and ridiculed such an idea. A haunted grocery store? Come on!
The Amusement Park
Visiting an amusement park especially during the summer brings feelings of fun and excitement. The last thing on our minds as we wait in line to ride a roller coaster is encountering a ghost.
Long shut down and abandoned due to more than one tragic and fatal accident, Lake Shawnee Amusement Park in West Virginia is claimed to be one of the most haunted parks in the United States.
The rusted swings and Ferris wheel long overgrown by tall grass and weeds stand frozen in time as they creak in the wind. An eerie reminder of what the amusement park once was.
The park has long been abandoned and is no longer a functioning amusement park. However, many have reported seeing glimpses of spectral figures going in and out between rides and heard disembodied voices.
While the tragic accidents of the once functioning amusement park are the explanation to the ghostly encounters witnessed, it’s not the only source.
Lake Shawnee was built on ancient Native American burial grounds. During it’s debut, Lake Shawnee was well received as a new place to take the family for fun and entertainment.
But maybe it wasn't such a good idea to build an amusement park on ancient native American burial grounds.
If you ever visit Lake Shawnee and see a swing moving back and forth, perhaps it’s more than the wind shifting it. Maybe its the ghostly children wanting to enjoy a ride just one more time.
The Fast Food Restaurant
I’d like a burger, no onions, with a side of … ghosts?
Dine inside one particular McDonald’s in Idabel, Oklahoma and you just might be sharing company with a ghost.
Restaurant employees have claimed to have seen a glimpse of a little girl going into the men’s bathroom. There’s just one thing. These sighting have occurred hours before the restaurant even opened for customers. People have also heard toilets flushing all at once in the women’s bathroom as well as disembodied laughter. Some employees have also claimed to have encountered sudden and unexplained cold spots.
If there really is a ghost that haunts this McDonald’s, it seems that this is no more than a harmless and mischievous spirit.
Whether or not you believe, isn’t there something even slightly eerie about sitting inside an empty fast food restaurant late at night?
The paranormal can be experienced in some of the most unlikely of places. It’s just a reminder that we don’t have to visit centuries old houses or cemeteries to experience the supernatural.

I kind of expect them in the amusement park, hopefully not while riding on the roller coaster. These are great, I could see Ryan Murphy working around them.
WOo this was spine chilling to read. I straight away started imagining these scenarios. AMazing @Jasmine Aguilar
