The Unexpected Betrayal
Friends, lovers and colleagues are not to be trusted

The Mainland Prison yard was encircled by not one, not two, but three 12 foot barb wire topped security fences, making it an absolute impossibility for anyone held in the prison to ever escape. This is because Mainland prisoners are the hard core villains, the evilest of the evil criminals on the entire planet.
One such prisoner is known as ‘The Slasher Kid’, a young man of twenty five years of age, committed to Mainland for the sixteen deaths he had already committed in his short life. Sixteen pre-pubescent teenage girls, all killed with that famous slash across their necks, that The Slasher Kid was infamous for.
This criminal was a delight to look at. Tall, muscles galore, blonde hair and steel blue eyes. It’s obvious to all at first sight, how it is that he could entice these young girls close enough for him to kill. He was a master manipulator of the female race.
The Mainland Prison is a unisex prison, as there is no other prison with the necessary security to hold the evil villains currently housed in Mainland. It may surprise many to know that female serial killers, while not as common as the male variety, do exist and they can be as evil, if not more so, than the males — all bar The Slasher Kid.
I’m sure it wouldn’t come as a surprise then to hear the rumours at Mainland. Rumours on how The Kid was cozying up to one horrid female in particular, a female with the moniker of ‘Beauty Calamity’, who kills her lovers via slow, painful poisoning.
The prison’s Warden was concerned on the hooking up of this pair but his hands were tied. There was nowhere else to send one or the other and thereby split them up. He was fully aware they were bribing his officers to enable them some alone time, as often as they wished. He didn’t blame his officers, it was hard not to cave to the demands made by this couple. They are, after all, evil personified and two of the scariest sons of bitches he had ever laid eyes on.
On their own, these two criminals were a force to be reckoned with. Together they were a cyclone of destruction and it was for this reason the prison Warden put a contract out on The Slasher Kid. He justified this to himself by remembering the evilness that these two together exponentially arose too.
Far and wide the Warden sent out a directive to all known bounty hunters, to accept the offering to become an instant millionaire, in exchange for removing and preferably silencing The Slasher Kid permanently.
Weeks went by without anyone taking up the offer. There was that much fear for this villain, that not even a million dollars, was enough to entice someone to accept the job.
Until one day in late October. A message was received by the Warden from one such bounty hunter, who happened to reside in an alternate universe to the one that was familiar, to the Mainland Prison and its boundaries.
The bounty hunter called himself Hunter Prince and was proud of the fact that he always succeeded in catching his bounty, dead or alive, but preferably alive. In fact, he had only failed once, in his own eyes anyway, as he did catch his bounty. He feels he failed because it was on this one occasion, that he had to kill his bounty to bring him home. The only time he had killed.
The Warden accepted Hunter Prince’s missive, explaining he didn’t want to know the how or when but he wanted The Kid removed from his prison. He didn’t care what happened after that as long as The Kid was not set free to kill again.
Hunter returned to his universe to begin planning the extraction, knowing it wasn’t going to be an easy feat to pull off. He did however, have the approval of his government, due to the fact the higher ups wanted The Slasher Kid for crimes that he had committed in their world, and this Universe’s Leaders had no qualms on sentencing The Kid to death by hanging.
Plan after plan was formulated and thrown out again as the problem on collecting this bounty was an unusual one. Creativeness was going to be the key and so far nothing spitballed was going to work.
It was then that Hunter Prince put together a foolproof, but brilliant, plan to bring the evil criminal back to Hunter’s land.
Mind made up, he approached the Mainland Prison’s warden once more and put the finishing touches in place to execute a floorless plan.
Hunter would be dragged into the prison as just another evil incarnate, to be locked away to protect the innocents in the world. Once inside, he would befriend The Kid, while bribing the guards to help them both escape. This way the Warden wouldn’t need to dirty his hands at all, other than to agree to Hunter entering the prison as an undercover villain.
D-Day arrived and the Mainland Prison’s security van entered through the front gates, backed up to the inmate intake door and parked. The driver and his passenger exited the front of the van and armed themselves, before moving to the back of the van to release their latest prisoner into the system.
As the back doors opened Hunter was dragged out in chains and processed as a criminal to serve his time. The Warden had organised it so Hunter would have the cell next door to The Slasher Kid. Then Hunter was left to his own devices, the Warden the only person who knew he was there undercover.
Allowing a few days to settle in and because he didn’t want to seem too eager, Hunter spent time in solitude going over his plan again and again. Once confident in his abilities to pull this off, he began the arduous task of befriending The Kid.
Surprisingly, The Kid jumped at the offer of friendship as Hunter was the only criminal intake that had not swooned over meeting him. Instead Hunter had pretended the villain in the next cell didn’t exist for those first few days. This was a first for The Kid and he didn’t like it, so was quick to accept the friendship offer when it came, if for no other reason than to find out what made Hunter tick.
The unlikely duo instantly became inseparable and it wasn’t uncommon to see the pair sitting in a quiet corner, far from other inmates, contriving some sort of mischief.
That mischief was to be broadcast far and wide across the prison within the next week, once the pair had the breakout plans set in stone. They went over the plans hour after hour after hour, looking for any flaws and sealing up the weak spots. Eventually they had it planned as well as could be and decided tomorrow was the day. Both confident that after tomorrow, they’d be free.
As the next day dawned, Hunter bribed a guard with securing him two sharp knives from the kitchen. An hour after breakfast, the guard slipped the knives beneath Hunter’s mattress, ready for Hunter when he returned from his shower.
On retrieving the knives, Hunter passed one to The Slasher Kid and the escape plan started with a bang. Hunter walked into each cell extending on the right of his, and down to the guard station. As he entered each cell, on the pretext of recruiting the resident of the cell into the plan, he instead took advantage by getting behind each inmate and slashing their throats, hand over their mouth to keep them silence, until they lay in a pool of their own blood.
The Slasher Kid was completing the same exercise in all the cells on the left of Hunter’s, until every inmate on their floor had been silenced.
The two met back in the middle and preceded with the next step of their plan. They joined forces and walked confidently towards the guard station. The guard on duty was the same one Hunter had bribed, so there was no fear felt by this guard, as they got close.
He should have known by now never to trust a criminal, as he was captured and taken hostage by the two. This was their way out.
The Slasher Kid holding his knife to the guard’s throat, rifled through his hostage’s pockets to find the prison keys they would need.
As the pair unlocked the floor door, they dragged the guard along with them and began to head for the closest exit. Hunter told The Kid to continue on without him and he’d meet him at the exit, explaining he had one thing he needed to do.
The Kid believed Hunter was going to collect his girl, Beauty Calamity, as promised. However, unbeknownst to The Kid, Hunter was not going to rescue the girl. No he was going to end her life. She was surplus to his plans.
As The Kid waited patiently by the exit door, Hunter found and exterminated Beauty Calamity without any surprises and when Hunter arrived at the exit door, he explained that one of the guards had killed his girl before she could escape. The Kid was, understandably, furious and Hunter informed him he had extracted revenge on the said guard, which wasn’t actually true.
The were no more unforeseen circumstances in the escape and within minutes they were out the door and travelling, incognito to Hunter’s Universe, with The Kid laughing and bragging about what a pair of badasses they both were.
On arrival in the alternate Universe, Government Security were waiting to capture The Slasher Kid as soon as he physically stepped foot on their land.
Within days, the gallows were set up, The Slasher Kid dragged kicking and screaming onto the platform, angry at the betrayal of the one friend he had ever trusted.
As the rope was slotted over his head, he looked to the left at all the sudden commotion that had erupted, to see to his delight, his so called friend being dragged along by the government guards.
Yes, Hunter Prince had also been sentence to death for the part he played in all the killings at Mainland Prison. The government understood the need to kill to break The Slasher Kid out, but now couldn’t trust someone who could kill so easily. Necessary as it was, it was also inherently evil.
It was on this basis that Hunter Prince stood beside The Slasher Kid, both with lassos around their necks, as the two trap doors dropped at the same time and both killers swung by the neck until they were dead.
Evil distinguished at the press of an executioner’s button.

Hi, great horror story.. the ending so awesome.. Great job. I loved it💖
Whoaaa, did not expect that ending. I thought the betrayal was gonna be the Hunter betraying The Kid. But didn't expect the Hunter to get the same fate as The Kid. This story is a little different from the stories you usually write but good different. I loved this story!
The ending was unexpected, but great. Very well done.
The author is the ultimate executioner. Thank you for taking them both out! 😃😎
