The crew of Pioneer consisted of eight specialists: Captain Orin Vale, engineer Lia Korr, biologist Dr. Ezra Nolan, and others tasked with life support, security, and technical diagnostics. Their mission: determine why Haven-12 had gone dark and, if necessary, rescue the remaining personnel.

Upon arrival, the Pioneer detected subtle energy fluctuations from the colony’s interior.
