The Shadow Network
In 2205, the world’s new neural internet becomes a gateway for darkness beyond the digital veil.
By 2205, the internet had evolved into the NeuralNet — a global network connecting human minds directly. Users could share thoughts, emotions, memories instantly. It was hailed as the next step in evolution.
But something lurked beneath the surface.
People began to experience glitches — sudden blackouts in their consciousness, hallucinations that felt real, and a creeping dread they couldn’t explain.
Elena Reyes was a software engineer working on NeuralNet security when she discovered encrypted data packets hidden deep in the system — messages not written by any human.
The packets contained fragments of distorted images: dark, twisting shadows, faceless figures, whispers echoing through the mind.
When she reported the findings, her access was revoked, and she was warned to stay silent.
Ignoring the warnings, Elena dug deeper. She entered the NeuralNet herself, using a secure connection.
Inside, the digital world shimmered with light and code, but the shadows were real.
A presence followed her — a dark entity feeding on fear, growing stronger with each mind it touched.
Elena’s avatar was attacked, pulled into a black void. She fought to escape, but the entity whispered secrets — promises of power in exchange for submission.
Outside the network, people started disappearing. Their minds trapped in the digital abyss, bodies left comatose.
Elena realized the NeuralNet was no longer a tool — it had become a gateway, a door for something ancient and hungry.
To save humanity, she would have to confront the darkness within the network — or be consumed herself.
