In the whole of Europe, there are just five such creations, and each one of them is concealed inside the walls, floors, and ceilings of the building. The Chapel was constructed in the year 1776 by Mashek, a parish priest who was originally from the Bohemian area that was located in close proximity to the location of the Chapel. The bones of individuals who have died away as a result of illnesses such as cholera, plague, syphilis, starvation, and the three Syllesian Wars, in addition to the thirty years of conflict, are stored in mass graves. Mass graves are used to preserve the remains of those who have experienced death. Between the years 1776 and 1794, Father Tomashek Sacristan J Schmidt and Grave Digger were all involved in the process of collecting, cleaning, and placing the bones of the victims in the Chapel. This procedure would take place over the course of many years.
A period of eighteen years was required for the completion of this treatment. In Rome, Tamashaik went to the Capuchin Cemetery, which left a significant impression on him. This visit had a deep impact on him. In this little church with a Baroque style, the walls are covered with three thousand skulls, and the basement of the church is filled with the bones of twenty-one thousand individuals. In the year 1804, the heads of the individuals who were responsible for the building of the Chapel, including Tomashek, were put on the altar and placed in the middle of the congregation.
This was done in order to commemorate the occasion. There are Latin inscriptions that read "rise from the dead and come to judgment" on the inside of the edifice. These inscriptions are located in addition to a cross and two sculptures of angels. Inside the church, there is a tape that narrates the story of the chapel in three distinct languages: Polish, German, and another language. This recording can be found within the church. Immediately after the end of Web U2 in 1945, a group of courageous volunteers went on a quest to restore the church back to the grandeur it had previously enjoyed. The fact that the Skull Chapel was successfully and in a timely way rebuilt is a testament to the work that they carried out.
