The Mirror in My Room
The ghost wasn’t angry. She was just. forgotten.

🎬 Prologue: A Quiet Apartment
moved here to get away from the past. New life, new city, and no recollections. It was on the fifth floor.
One room, one bed, and a single wall-mounted mirror. The landlord said with a grin, Avoid attempting to remove the mirror. It belongs there.
That ought to have been the initial warning sign.
But I was tired. Lonely. Lost.
Moreover, too broken to care.
🕒 Chapter 1: The Tapping Begins
The third night was when it started.
1:44 a.m.
Each and every evening.
Tap, tap, tap.
I'd wake up, looking at that mirror, sweating profusely.
I initially believed I was dreaming.
Until one evening. I noticed traces of breath on the glass.
It was as though someone was breathing inside of it.
I touched it with my fingertips.
Still warm.
I muttered:
Is there anybody there?
No response.
Until the next evening.
😨 Chapter 2: The Woman in the Mirror
It wasn't just breath this time. Fingertips were present. Thin, trembling fingertips… dragging down the glass slowly.
I stared, frozen.
After that, her face surfaced. Pale. hollow eyes Lips bloodless.
Her mouth didn’t move.
But in my head, I could hear her.
You abandoned me. I turned around.
Nothing.
turned around. She was now beaming. However, it wasn't joy. It was resentment.
🧠 Chapter 3: Reawakening Memories
That sound. That sentence. That look. My mind spun violently, unlocking a room I had sealed long ago.
My twin sister, Reema.
She was killed in a car accident. I made it. She failed. But I could still hear her last words as she passed away in my arms: "Don't forget me," I was 16. I ran from it all.
Avoided mirrors, birthdays, memories, and therapy.
And yet here she was, inside the glass.
Still 16. Still waiting.
🕯️ Chapter 4: The Confrontation
I was no longer able to escape this. That night, I sat in front of the mirror.
Lighting a candle Stared into her eyes.
I said softly, I'm sorry. I was weak. I couldn't imagine life without you. Her lips moved for the first time.
"You pledged." The mirror started to shake. My room turned icy cold.
My candle flickered briefly before going out. In the darkness, her voice filled the room:
You lived. I remained at home. You neglected me. No, I cried, “I never stopped loving you!”
The mirror suddenly broke, but no glass hit me. Instead, in its place was a doorway.
And inside…
Room from our childhood.
💔 Chapter 5: The Choice
I went inside. She was there. sitting down on the ground. wearing the yellow hoodie she adores. Drawing, just as she did in the past. She looked up.
Eyes full of tears.
She stated, I waited so long. I kneeled next to her. Held her hand.
I’m here now.
Will you remain? she asked.
I replied, I can't. However, I will not forget again. She grinned. And just like that —
The room faded.
I woke up on my bed.
The mirror had vanished.
The mirror had been missing for several weeks. No tapping.
No gloom. No whispers in the dark.
Just silence.
I began to feel liberated. Maybe I had finally made peace with Reema.
Maybe… she crossed over.
Or so I thought.
🕳️ Bonus Chapter 6: The Whisper Behind the Glass
When I was brushing my teeth one night, I looked into the small mirror in the bathroom.
Just casually, out of habit.
But for a split second — my reflection didn’t move.
I missed it. It gave a late blink. I stepped back.
The room felt colder.
Heavier.
Like someone else was breathing beside me.
And then, from behind the mirror, I heard it again.
Never forget. Not Reema’s voice.
🔚 Epilogue: The Truth About Ghosts
Old houses, cemeteries, and cursed areas are said to be haunted by ghosts. But that is not the case. Sometimes
Memory is haunted by ghosts. Remorse drives ghosts. In promises we made and failed to keep.
And if you don't take care — They will sit mirrors and wait, Until you have the courage to keep in mind them.
