The Loud Silent Echo- Part 1

"Liam Johns, a 24 year old army, is reported to go missing since day before yesterday night. His family filed up a missing case, stating that he have went to Raventon for an important mission, in that place, but after he informed them about his arrival, his family tried to contact him few hours later but it was found switched off, no messages were able to be delivered till now, till this 45 hours."-

Adira turned off the television, draining away its life and sighed. Every year, since that day, since 1981, people have been reported missing after going to Raventon, in that one particular area, that forest, to further investigate about the government experiment that have caused a destruction, which created something, or perhaps someone. Local people reported to hear whispers, seeing lights flicker or maybe see a shadow.

"Why the hell did you agree? You know what happens when you go there, still you agreed!" Adira said, clearly showing her frustration.

"It's my job. They chose me for this. I have to investigate this." Her brother Enzo replied.

"Why you? Let them choose someone else! Since mom left I only have you! At least think about me."

"I am sorry Adira but I have to go. It's not for this. I have my own reasons. Reasons...I can't tell. At least not now. Don't stop me Adira. It's no use, I have to go. Take care."

"No! Wait, Liam!" Adira ran behind him trying to stop him but in a swift motion he shut the door on her face, locked it and left, not forgetting to hand the guard the spare key of Adira, which he took long before because he knew this would happen, and telling the guard to unlock the door and return the key to her after an hour.

Days passed. Her brother messaged her saying that he had arrived there and is perfectly fine. But that didn't ease her. That could never. Her brother left. And she couldn't stop him. Guilt, frustration crashing on her because she couldn't prevent him from going.

More days gone by. Adira somehow started to feel little bit at ease since her brother messaged her everyday, telling her he is fit and fine. Soon, She started believing that he would come back. But -

A beep. A message came. From her brother. But it wasn't his usual reassuring text. It was something that shook her soul the moment she read it. "They are not humans- they are something else. Don't come looking for me." She stared at it, shocked. She immediately called her brother, but - "The number you have tried to call is unreachable, please try again later" and beep. She tried several times but the same voice, same words always answered and then the call was disconnected. Fear was taking over her. She was fearing for the worst, hoping it will not turn into reality.

Hours later. A call came from an unknown number. She received it and the person on the other hand blurted - "We are from the army miss Ashford and we are sorry to inform you but your brother Enzo Ashford is missing." The ground beneath her feet slipped. This wouldn't happen. This couldn't happen. She couldn't believe it. The thing she was fearing the most became reality. Her brother was missing. The call disconnected and she was left with her thoughts. Minutes later, her once shocked eyes were filled with determination. She had to find her brother, unravel what was actually behind those woods in Raventon.

She sprinted, got ready and left, not forgetting to admire her home for one last time because who knows? Would she be back or not?
