The Jinn Mystery on the Night of Operation Jackpot

1971 Chittagong Port Ghost Story

By LilyPublished 10 months ago 13 min read

Before getting to the main event, if I don't start by mentioning something about the Great Liberation War, it will be difficult to understand the significance of this event. A notable event of the Great Liberation War is Jackpot. During the Liberation War, the entire country was divided into 11 sectors, and among them, sector number 10 encompassed all the waterways, seaports, and sea areas of Bangladesh. There was no regular sector commander for this waterway or under the authority of sector number 10. At that time, large ships were arriving from Pakistan carrying weapons. If these weapons fell into the hands of the Pakistani army or their collaborators, the number of killings in our country would increase even further, and many innocent people would die. So, to break the morale of the Pakistani forces at that time, a special operation was conducted, called Operation Jackpot. Under Operation Jackpot, there were four locations: Chittagong seaport, Mongla seaport, Chandpur river port, and Narayanganj river port. Our event today has a connection with the Chittagong seaport. The person who led the operation there was Submariner Bir Muktijoddha (Freedom Fighter) Abdul Wahed Chowdhury, Bir Uttam. Basically, there were two signals for the start of this operation. Two songs were to be broadcast on a specific frequency from Kolkata Akashvani (All India Radio). The first song was sung by Pankaj Mullick, "Ami Tomay Jato Shuniyechhilam Gaan." When this song was broadcast, it was the signal to attack, meaning the attack had to be launched that night, or after midnight. That was one signal. The other was a song sung by Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, "Amar Putul Aajke Prothom Jaabe Shoshurbari."

So, the meaning of this signal was that 48 hours later, everyone should leave the base for the operation and attack. And the meaning of Pankaj Mullick's song was to attack. So, when this kind of signal is received, or when the commanders receive it, they start the operation. This was Operation Jackpot. And this incident that I'm talking about today, I collected it from a person named Jamilur Rahman Bhai, who is a C&F agent at Chittagong port, a Clearing and Forwarding agent. Meaning, the goods that arrive at the port or airport, those have to be cleared through these C&F agents, and then others get them. So, this Jamilur Rahman Bhai's grandfather, his name is Zulfiqur Rahman, he used to work at Chittagong Port during the Great Liberation War. And the part he was in was Jetty No. 13. He used to work in that area of that jetty, a small job, you know. So, that night, he was on duty. It was quite late, sometime after 12:00 AM, maybe after 1:00 AM. Suddenly, there was an explosion. When the explosion happened, he quickly left from there. But that was a part of Operation Jackpot. Basically, 9900-10 tons of weapons were anchored at Jetty No. 13, and the name of the ship was MV Hormuz. He was mainly on duty somewhere near that MV Hormuz. So, when this explosion happened, he quickly went home, understanding that there would be big trouble. And since the arms-carrying ship had been attacked, the entire Pakistani army would carry out a major sabotage in the entire city of Chittagong. So, he quickly started heading home. At that time, finding a vehicle to go home was quite difficult. Still, he had a small bike, just a bike.

So, he started his journey with that bike because it would have been quite difficult for him to travel from that Hali Shahar back to this port. That's why he used to commute with that bike. So, he started with the bike. After starting with the bike, the Pakistani army stopped him in several places along the way. He had his ID card showing that he worked at Chittagong Port, so they released him. They let him go, basically.

So, he was going back home. At one point on the way home, what happened was that he couldn't move forward with the bike anymore. Suddenly, the bike's engine stopped. He couldn't start the bike no matter what he tried. Now what to do? He had to get home quickly, although he was almost home, about a kilometer away. And the place where he had reached had a very broken road, a brick road with broken patches here and there. It was quite difficult to ride a bike there, so he had to push it. And meanwhile, he could hear the sounds of gunfire. Then he thought that he had to get home quickly now. If he took too long to get home pushing this bike, God forbid, something might happen here. He was scared. At one point, he decided he wouldn't push the bike anymore. He would leave the bike there. There was no chance of it being stolen at night. He would come early in the morning, right after the Fajr (pre-dawn) prayer call, and check on it and take the bike then, Inshallah (God willing). That's what he thought. Thinking that, he left the bike there after locking it, and started walking towards his house. And because the environment and situation in the country at that time was so terrible, people wouldn't go out on the streets at night. He was going towards his house. It was dark on that road. He was thinking that he would go with the headlight beam in front of the bike. That's why he didn't have a flashlight either.

So, he's walking forward, and after walking some distance, suddenly there's a cat. He could tell in the darkness that it was a white cat, or rather, a yellowish color in places. It was a fairly large cat, big meaning, compared to the normal cats we see, this one was quite large. Just a regular domestic cat, but like that. That kind of cat kept blocking his path, wouldn't let him go forward. He kept trying to shoo the cat away because he needed to get home quickly. He wanted to get home because the country's situation wasn't good. The Pakistani forces had attacked a ship carrying weapons. Surely they would issue a complete lockdown in the city to prevent the attackers from escaping, right? That's how things usually are. So, while trying to get home, his bike broke down, and now there's this cat. He kept trying to get the cat away, trying to scare it, but the cat wouldn't leave. At one point, he didn't actually kick the cat. When the cat started rubbing against him, rubbing against his legs, he put his foot against the cat's stomach and sort of flicked the cat away, not really kicking it, but sort of launching it into the air with his foot. Even after that, the cat kept coming back to him. Now he was realizing that it seemed like the cat was trying to lead him somewhere. He thought, "What trouble is starting again on this night? As if the initial problem wasn't enough, now this hassle." He didn't really pay attention to the cat. He started walking quickly towards his house. As he was walking, suddenly he heard a rustling sound on one side of the road he was walking on. It sounded like something was jumping from one place to another, making a "thump" sound. So, this was happening, and as he walked, it seemed like that thing was also jumping along beside him.

So, he wasn't understanding what was going on, what had started. He was thinking how this was happening in rhythm with him, that this wasn't normal. He thought it might be a fox or something. So he quickly headed towards home because he had already walked, maybe almost half a kilometer by then, meaning he was about a kilometer away from home. That road was quite long. The situation back then and the current environment aren't the same; a lot has changed now. Anyway, he was walking, almost near the house, probably about 200 meters away from home. But this "thud-thud" sound was still happening. He had ears, but he didn't have time to think about these things. When he was about 200 meters from the house, there were some houses nearby, but everyone in those houses was asleep; you could tell that no lights were on in their homes. Then, he saw something. He saw something like a cat standing on two legs; you know how a cat looks when it stands on two legs? It was like that, but the figure was much bigger. It seemed like it was standing like a human, it had a tail, but it was a lot bigger, about the size of a human, and its eyes were gleaming. Seeing this, he was terribly frightened, wondering what was happening, what was this. Then he thought, "I just kicked it a little while ago; maybe it's coming to me now in this form. Now my life is over. Even if I didn't die at the hands of the Pakistani army, my life will end at the hands of these ghosts and spirits now." So he was scared and reciting prayers. Suddenly, the cat-like figure spoke, "Hey, don't be afraid, don't be afraid. I haven't come to harm you. Save my son; my son will die right now." Hearing such human-like words coming from the mouth of such a figure, he was even more frightened, wondering what this was, if he was seeing correctly.

So, his voice was quite nasal, and sometimes when someone's voice is like they're talking with water in their mouth, it sounds somewhat like that. And then again, with the nasal voice, it's not like he could understand everything. Now, he's thinking, what's going on, why is this happening? His son is going to die, how can I help? Am I some kind of holy man or should I go to one? He's thinking like that. He bravely speaks a little, but he's scared. His body is completely drenched in sweat. It's already August, a hot time of year, and seeing this scene, he's so scared that his body is completely soaked. He bravely says, "How can I save your son? I'm just a regular person, I don't pray regularly, I don't get the time for it, though I should. But how can I save your son? Tell me." Then it says, "I'll tell you everything, time is very short, you come with me." Then he says, "I won't go with you. What if you take me and kill me?" Then it says, "I promise, I won't harm you. I wouldn't have come before you if I wasn't in danger. I am in great danger. If I had the chance to go to someone else, I would have. But at this moment, I can't find anyone around. I felt like I could tell you, that's why I initially came in the form of a cat, trying to take you with me. You didn't understand and pushed me away. You even hurt my body. Even though I didn't feel the pain, I don't mind because I need you now. Save my son." Then he says, "Okay, how do I save him?" It says, "Come with me." Now, this Zulfiqar Rahman Dada is scared, thinking, "God, I don't know what kind of trouble I'm getting into with this ghost story." He's going with it, wondering which way it will take him and kill him. Still, he's reciting prayers, blowing on his body after reciting Ayat al-Kursi. The thing is walking like a human, but not exactly. It's kind of hopping, like a kangaroo hops. It seems to be hopping along. He's following behind it. Then he sees that it goes off the road to the side, near a field. The field is familiar to him, it's not unfamiliar.

So, arriving at a certain place, that lack/need stops.

After it stops, it says, "Come here, come here." So, having gone to that place, it says, "This place here, my son is buried under this soil. Buried," meaning it says, "Yes, buried. Open it quickly, I'll tell you later. If you delay, my son will die." Then he sees that the soil in that place is actually a little loose. Like if something is dug into a hole and then covered with soil, that place remains a little loose, right? It seems like this hasn't been long. So he starts digging that place. Digging and digging, he unearths about half a hand's depth. Very easily, with his hands. After digging half a hand's depth, suddenly his hand hits something hard. He understands it's a bottle. The bottle is a glass bottle. So he pulls the bottle up. After pulling it up, he's very surprised. It seems to him like there's a firefly inside the bottle. But fireflies extinguish in water, extinguish in water, but this thing is still burning. And the bottle is a glass bottle, and its mouth is sealed with some red-type cloth and tied with some thread. Then it was buried in the ground, you know? Then that cat-like lack/need says,

"Quickly, quickly open it. Quickly open it, save my son. My son will die." So, without thinking too much, he quickly starts untying the threads. Untying and untying, he opens the mouth as well. As soon as the mouth opens, that light, that light slowly comes out. Coming out, it starts running around a little. While it's running around, that cat-like figure says, "Dad, I... I come to me, come to me." Then that figure zooms towards that cat-like figure. After that cat-like figure holds that light, right in front of Zulfiqur Rahman Dada, that light becomes a figure that is not exactly human, but like a figure that is a mix of human and cat. Like that kind of figure. And it starts breathing very heavily, like someone with breathing problems tries to breathe. So, it keeps doing that. After some time, it slowly becomes normal. When it becomes normal,

Then the cat-like need said, "You're doing me a huge favor today. I didn't have time to go to my community and ask for help about this, and there aren't many people around now. How could I ask anyone for help? Anyone I went to for help might imprison me and make me do their work. That's why I was looking for someone who wouldn't have that kind of attitude. And I had very little time, so I found you. The thing is, my son is sick, has been since birth. Today, in the evening, he was passing by a place, and while passing, he brushed against a little girl. I mean, the brush was slight, almost like a breeze. So, he brushed against her, and after that, the girl fell ill. In the evening, the girl's family called a shaman. After the shaman came, he realized that the girl's problem was caused by a jinn's influence. If the shaman had just performed some rituals, she would have been fine; my son didn't possess her. But the shaman used his obedient jinn to capture my young son, who can barely speak. He brought him here, even though he's already sick, and without a word, he imprisoned him. The shaman himself came and buried him in the ground here. If it had been any later, maybe my son couldn't have been saved. That's why I brought you here. Thanks to you, Allah saved my son. Even though we aren't good jinn, we try not to harm humans. So, thank you so much for coming so bravely. I had no other choice; I had to finally reveal myself to you in my true form." Zulfiqar Dada heard all of this, and after listening, he said, "Alright, okay."

So, tell me, is there anything else I need to do? Otherwise, I'll head home. I'm quite scared seeing you all, and the country's environment isn't good anyway. Then that jinn says, "No, I don't need anything more from you. You can go home."

"And if you ever feel you need me for anything, you can call me." Then that Zulfikar Dada (respected elder) says, "No, I don't want any return for my help. Allah sent me to you, or sent you to me, that I saved your child's life. You don't have to give me anything for that, and I don't want anything in return. If I help, what do I ask from Allah? What will Allah give me in the afterlife? So, I want this to be our last meeting. Even if we meet again, nothing will be said about this." Later, that needy one says, "You really are a very good person. I'm taking my leave from you today." Then that needy one disappears.

So, Zulfikar Rahman Dada quickly returns home. After returning, he doesn't say anything that night. Anyway, so many things have happened. First, this kind of incident happened at his workplace, there was an explosion. Then, this incident in between. He later shared this incident with all his family members. And he didn't go to any Imam or exorcist to get any kind of exorcism or blowing (religious healing rituals) done about it.So, later he learned that in that area, a young girl, while passing by a place in the evening, became somewhat possessed, fell ill. Subsequently, an Ojha (exorcist) was brought in, and the Ojha, it was said, summoned the jinn, captured it, and took it away. This much information he received. However, after that, he didn't really discuss it much, except with family members. And throughout Zulfiqur Rahman Dada's lifetime, he never encountered that jinn again. The jinn never came back, and he also didn't want the jinn to ever come before him, because, you know, an act of kindness deserves reciprocation, or just by calling him, an act of kindness would need repayment. That's why he never tried to take anything from the jinn in return for the favor. If he had asked, the jinn might have tried to give according to its ability, but no, he didn't do that. He showed considerable generosity there. So, that was the incident. This incident happened on a specific day, I remember the exact date because it was the 15th of August, and after 12:00 AM, it became the 16th of August. So, in that sense, it can be called the 16th of August, because he faced this incident when it was probably past 3:00 AM, an approximate time. So, based on that, it falls within the 16th of August.

So, that was the incident. Thank you to Jamilur Rahman bhai. Actually, he didn't want to reveal the name of the CNF agent, for valid reasons. He only allowed his name to be mentioned. And where he currently resides – he currently lives in Chittagong, but he has also forbidden me from mentioning where in Chittagong he lives, which is why I didn't say it. Dear listeners, that was the incident. I hope you liked this incident and that it was able to evoke a sense of fear and thrill.
