The Haunted Grave: A Freedom Fighter’s Terrifying Encounter

True Ghost Story

By LilyPublished 10 months ago 17 min read

The person who sent us this incident is named Asif. He currently lives in Mirpur. The incident happened with his father-in-law, who lives in the Bihari camp of Benarashi Palli, Mirpur 10. However, he is not Bihari; his ancestral home is Bhola. He is a local here. I'm not mentioning his father-in-law's name for understandable reasons, and his wife's name is also involved, so I'm not mentioning her name either. Many people around here know his father-in-law. The incident occurred sometime between 2000 and 2001. At that time, his father-in-law used to drive a van there. The incident begins with a date palm tree next to their house. This date palm tree had a small banyan tree growing on top of it. There was a washroom next to the tree.

At that time, many people in the surrounding area used this washroom. There was a drain next to the washroom. Rumor has it that seven genies lived in that tree. Many people used to see small, dwarf-like figures moving around under the tree at night. It used to take only 10 minutes for his father-in-law to go from his house to Mirpur 11 market. There was a large cotton tree on the way to the market. Of course, there are many stories connected to the cotton tree, but the cotton tree is no longer there, but the date palm tree still exists. His father-in-law mainly stayed at the 11 number bus stand; that's where his workplace was. Now, let's get to the main incident. The incident happened one night.

I don't remember the exact day, but it was during the monsoon season. That night, his father-in-law returned from work, ate dinner, and went to sleep. Late at night, Asif's wife woke up to go to the washroom. At that time, his wife was five or six years old. They were two sisters and one brother at that time. First, the elder brother, then his wife, and then another younger sister. To go to the washroom, she called her father. Asif's father-in-law woke up. When he woke up and opened the door to take his daughter outside, he saw that it was drizzling.

They had just stepped outside, and it's worth mentioning that the washroom was clearly visible from his father-in-law's house, pretty close by. So, when his father-in-law came outside and looked towards the washroom, he saw a small, black child coming out of it. The child was a dwarf-like figure. His daughter, Asif's wife, who was with him, also saw it. She exclaimed, "Oh my! What is that? I don't remember ever seeing it before around here." Her father said nothing to her at first, but then told her, "Quiet, let's see what happens."

After a while, they saw that the child, or rather, the dwarf-like figure, walked a little ways, then turned to look at his father-in-law. At that point, Asif's father-in-law noticed that although the face had been obscured by darkness until then, it suddenly seemed to become visible. He saw that the dwarf-like figure had no face – no eyes, no nose, nothing, not even ears. It was completely smooth, utterly level. However, it did have eyes, but not on its face; rather, seemingly on top of its shoulders. Seeing this, Asif's father-in-law stood there, wide-eyed, staring at it, unable to look away. It was as if he was frozen. The figure seemed to suddenly notice Asif's father-in-law and his wife, and seemed surprised. It turned and ran back into the washroom. That night, nobody in their family dared to use the washroom. The next morning, his father-in-law told everything to his wife, Asif's mother-in-law. Asif's mother-in-law said that she had seen it once too, but hadn't told anyone because she was afraid no one would believe her.

So, now let's get to what happened a few days later. A few days later, Asif's brother-in-law was quite late returning from his in-laws' house. That day too, it was drizzling. It was around 12:00 or 12:30 AM, something like that. He was completely drenched by the time he got home. After arriving home, he said to his wife, meaning Asif's mother-in-law, "Serve the rice, I'll take a shower and come." Saying this, he went near the washroom and saw that someone was inside. That was possible, as it was a common washroom, so many people used it.

So, when he saw someone was inside the washroom, he sat down next to the drain, the one I mentioned earlier, which was next to the washroom, to relieve himself. Because of the rain and the late hour, many people were asleep. As he sat there, he saw someone come out of the washroom and approach him from behind. He could hear the footsteps. The moment he turned around, before he could understand anything, he felt two hands grab his waist. After grabbing him, it lifted him up and started slamming him down. Asif's brother-in-law was a pretty healthy guy.

He was a very strong man, and tall too. Lifting a man like him up and slamming him down is no easy task. He screamed very loudly and was in a lot of pain. At that moment, a husband and wife were coming out of the adjacent room. Maybe one of them was going to the washroom, and the other was coming along. They saw Asif's brother-in-law being lifted into the air and then thrown down to the ground, but they couldn't see who was lifting him. They shouted, "Hey, who's there?" Then, the figure supposedly let go of Asif's brother-in-law and climbed up the date palm tree next to the washroom and disappeared. That's what Asif's brother-in-law saw.

But those two, they didn't see it. Over here, those two who came out started shouting, and then more people got involved. Then other people quickly took Asif's brother-in-law to his house and after that, whatever happened, he explained everything. Everyone who was present at that time, by the grace of Allah, his father-in-law was saved. He didn't have any fever or illness like that. Exactly one month later, one night, he was returning from work. He was coming via Mirpur 11 market. So, to come through the market, he had to pass by that cotton tree. When he was under that cotton tree, he felt something like water fall on his shoulder. He looked up and saw nothing. He didn't think much of it and went home. After arriving, he finished his meal and went to sleep. From the next day, he had a high fever. This fever wouldn't go down no matter what. He saw many doctors, but to no avail. This fever lasted for quite some time, and his body started to become terribly thin. Later, after searching a lot, in a place called Kala Pani, they found a good female *Kabiraj* (traditional healer). After showing her to him, she said, "Give me some time, let me see what can be done." Then that female *Kabiraj* said that Asif's brother-in-law had fallen prey to a terrifying *Pishach* (demon). Basically, while passing under that cotton tree, that demon spat or threw something on Asif's brother-in-law. Since then, he has had this fever, and it's not a normal fever. This cannot be cured with any medical medicine. It needs to be treated with a special method called *Ruqyah* (Islamic exorcism). So, that female *Kabiraj* started the *Ruqyah*. By the grace of Allah, Asif's brother-in-law recovered and she taught him some good deeds to perform. She told him to always do those good deeds. He followed this, and gradually, by the grace of Allah, he became healthy.

The incident we're talking about is about Alamin Bhai's maternal uncle; his home is in Madhupur Thana, Tangail district, which is known as the pineapple city of Bangladesh. Anyway, let's start the story. The weather that night was slightly drizzly, with occasional lightning. This uncle of his and his friends were discussing going to the jungle to fish. There's a kind of lake in the middle of the jungle, and during the rainy season, you can catch even more fish there. Around their homes was the Gazari forest. Almost a third of Madhupur is covered by Gazari forest. After consulting with his friends, around eight o'clock at night, they all set out with everything they needed for fishing, through the Gazari forest. It takes them about 40 minutes to reach there from the house. Upon arrival, everyone sat down together and prepared their fishing gear. Once everyone's fishing gear was ready, they were all ready to fish. Everyone was fishing as they liked, and the uncle was also fishing. He caught one or two fish. Then, everyone sat down for a rest on a slightly elevated place. They were smokers, so they always had cigarettes and gas lighters with them. They lit cigarettes and were joking around with everyone when this uncle's cigarette finished. Then he said he needed to go to the washroom to relieve himself, so he was going to the side. Then one of his friends, named Khalil, said, "Go later, if it's not too urgent. Someone saw a lot of fish in that canal ahead. Let's go there quickly and you can relieve yourself there later." Without thinking about anything else, he went with Khalil. While he went with Khalil, the rest of his friends didn't see him or Khalil. When he went a little further to go to the washroom - well, there's no washroom there - when he went a little further to relieve himself, Khalil called him then.

So, he was leaving with Khalil and didn't realize that his friends weren't watching him anymore. Yeah, he went into the water with Khalil to fish. They had taken a spear and a cast net for fishing. He noticed that Khalil was catching a lot of fish, and fish were jumping in front of him, but they disappeared as he got closer. When he turned off the light, fish jumped in front of him.

But after turning on the light, he couldn't see any fish. So, he wondered why he couldn't see any fish. Then he said to Khalil, "Friend, you said there were a lot of fish here and brought me here." Khalil replied, "Yes, there are fish. Why haven't you caught any?" Then he said, "I can't catch a single fish." Khalil said, "Look at how many fish I have in my creel. And you're saying there are no fish? Come on, man, you just can't fish." Then this uncle said again, "Khalil, when I turn on the light, I can't see any fish. And if there are fish, the water should be moving. But after turning on the light, there's no water movement. And if the fish are running away from the light, why don't I see the water moving?" When he explained this to Khalil properly, the uncle said, "Let's go. Let's go see the rest of our friends. We came here together, and they are sitting over there." Then Khalil said, "Let's go, but let's go a little further ahead and see if we can find any good fish over there." The uncle agreed, and they both started moving forward. Then, normally, the fish were jumping, but now, even after turning on the light, the fish weren't disappearing like they were before.

He couldn't understand the mystery of why this was happening now. Since they weren't disappearing, he tried to catch some fish. He was fishing for a while, and the water reached up to his chest. He didn't even realize he had gone from knee-deep water to chest-deep water because he was so engrossed in fishing. He even forgot that Khalil was with him. He was just focused on fishing, and Khalil...he was no longer with Khalil. Then he realized that Khalil was gone and he had already walked back home up to his chest. Meanwhile, he started calling out for Khalil. He was calling Khalil loudly, but there was no response from Khalil. Then his body felt like it was shuddering. He kept calling and calling. Suddenly, a very terrifying feeling started to come into his mind - wasn't he about to get into some terrible danger? He quickly started moving towards the shore. He came to the shore and started walking towards the place where they were initially sitting. But even after walking for 20 minutes, he couldn't find that place, even though it shouldn't take more than five minutes to get there. Then he understood what was about to happen to him. As soon as he thought this, a hot gust of wind suddenly hit his body. The surrounding trees started to move. Slowly, a storm-like chaos began, but the distant trees were normal. He understood, even though it was dark, he didn't delay and, invoking Allah's name, started running in every direction. He himself didn't know which way he was going because he couldn't find the right path. Suddenly, someone called his name from behind. But this voice wasn't unfamiliar. It was Khalil's voice. Looking back, he saw, "Oh, it's Khalil!" He then said again, "Khalil, where did you go? I've been calling you for so long, and how did you know I was here?" Then Khalil let out a demonic laugh and said, "Oh, I'm not Khalil. I've called you here taking Khalil's form. The place you were going to relieve yourself is where I live. We had problems because you walked through that area. You've made a big mistake."

As he said this, Khalil's appearance began to change. Within 10 seconds, Khalil transformed into a terrifying, monstrous figure. The eyes of that form looked like balls of fire, or fiery orbs. It was such a terrifying form, indescribable in words, because he only had a few seconds of consciousness, and didn't really have the chance to observe thoroughly. He only remembers that he was frozen in fear. Then he tried to escape, but couldn't. He became senseless. However, he understood that he was in a jungle. In that short time, he tried to call out to his friends several times. He remembers seeing a tall tree in front of him, and he was in a kind of daze, it felt like he tried to climb the tree. Climbing the tree, he thought he was safe, but that form was coming down below. That form started to come up again to catch him, and a storm started.

After that, he doesn't remember much. However, before he finally lost consciousness, he felt a sharp tug on his leg. It felt like that form was trying to pull him down from the tree. These things happened in a daze, but it really happened. However, at that time, he fell into a trance, as if he had entered a different world. In such a state, when he regained consciousness, he saw that he was in bed. Then he told everyone what had happened. Khalil was also there. Looking at Khalil, I said, "I made so much noise calling your name, didn't you hear me?"

Then Khalil started to say, "When we were all sitting, you went towards the jungle. We thought maybe you went to freshen up, so there was no need to call you. We thought you'd come back to fish and we would go down together. When we didn't see you coming back, we went ahead in the direction you went, but we couldn't find you there. Then we thought maybe you went to the other side."You were supposed to come, and we went down into the water to fish. But a little later, we saw you fishing right next to us. We asked you where you had been. You didn't say anything, and again, how did you get here so quickly? But you didn't give any real answer. Then we were fishing as usual. An hour or so later, we suddenly heard a scream, it was your voice. Then we all went towards the source of the scream, the direction the sound was coming from. We started running around. Suddenly your screaming stopped. After that, the problem that occurred made us hesitant. Each of us was hearing your scream from a different direction. We realized that someone was trying to trap us somehow. We were in a terrible danger because why would each of us hear it from a different direction? There was no way to rescue you until the Fajr prayer. After the Fajr prayer, we all went out to look for you. After searching for an hour, we found you lying under a hijal tree. Then we brought you home. After that, of course, the Imam of the mosque was called to perform a blessing. An exorcist was also called. The exorcist came and summoned the jinn. Apparently, the jinn wasn't particularly angry. It wasn't like that because the path he was using to relieve himself with water was where those jinn lived. They were inconvenienced, so they tried to scare him. There wasn't any intention to cause serious harm. Since it had possessed him, something had to be given. The jinn demanded a goat in exchange for leaving his body. After that, my uncle didn't have any more problems. But suddenly, after that monstrous figure appeared before him, he went into a trance. He started running, climbing trees, calling out to his friends. So that scream, his friends heard it, but everything was happening within a web of illusion.

The story I'm about to share with you was sent to us by Sabbir Alam, who is currently a student, 18 years old.

He writes that his home is in Chandanbari village, Monohardi Thana, in the district of Narsingdi. So, let's hear his story. The story was collected from one of his distant uncles. His uncle's name is Altaf Hossain, and the incident happened to him personally. The story was originally collected from Sabbir Alam's aunt. So, let's get to the main story. He heard the story around 2018, and around 2018 in that village, they had an old house. In front of the old house was a rice field, and beside it was a paved road. When the electricity went out in the village, everyone would come and sit there to get some air, basically gossiping and chatting. One such day, there was no electricity, and he went there with his aunt. There were many other people there too. Altaf Uncle was also there. It was in Altaf Uncle's presence that his aunt shared the story. The incident happened around 1990 when Altaf Uncle was about six or seven years old. His family members included his parents, and he was the eldest son in the family. The other siblings were very young, at most four or five years old. His father was a day laborer. He would take on various jobs in the area when he was called upon. One day, what happened was that a severe storm started at night. And the walls of their house were made of sugarcane leaves. The storm was so strong it felt like the house would collapse. In the midst of all this, Altaf Uncle said, he wanted to go to the washroom. He told his father to take him to the washroom because in village houses, the washroom is outside the house. We all know that. Especially now things are more developed, but still, many houses are like that. That house was also the same way.

Even in that storm, he took him outside. Occasionally, there were flashes of lightning.

When his father opened the door and came out, there was a strong wind blowing outside. Suddenly, both his father and this Altaf Kaka saw a horse-drawn carriage coming towards them over their coconut tree. Seeing this, both Altaf Kaka and his father got scared. Altaf Kaka was so frightened that he hugged his father. His father was saying, "Son, don't look that way, you'll be scared." According to Altaf Kaka and his father, the horse-drawn carriage was like a rickshaw, big enough for one person, with one horse. Seeing this scene, they didn't even have the strength to run towards the house. Altaf was trembling with fear, and his father was holding him tight. There was a figure sitting in the horse-drawn carriage, wearing a golden robe and something like a crown on its head, but its face was not visible. The horse-drawn carriage floated in the air, landed on the coconut tree, and transformed into a ball of fire. Then, the ball of fire circled over Altaf Kaka's and his father's heads several times. Unable to bear it, they screamed and Altaf Kaka's father took him inside the house as quickly as possible. By the grace of God, they didn't faint. Meanwhile, Altaf Kaka's mother woke up and asked what was happening. Then, Altaf Kaka's father told his wife everything. Then Altaf Kaka's mother said, "Okay, your sister knows how to perform exorcisms," referring to Altaf Kaka's father's sister.

So, in the morning, they'd do a little bit of exorcism on him, that's all. So, they went to sleep for the night, and the next morning, both this Altaf Kaka (Uncle Altaf) and his father had a high fever. Despite having a fever, since he was a day laborer, if he didn't go to work for even one day, they wouldn't have food at home. He went to work despite the fever. They also had him exorcised, his sister did the exorcism and gave him water to drink. But three days later, Altaf Kaka's father answered the call of Allah and passed away. Although nothing much happened to Altaf Kaka, he was scared. He had a fever, but with Allah's grace, he recovered. Altaf Kaka got married, he has a wife and children. Altaf Kaka is currently in Saudi Arabia. And he still regrets that night's incident and blames himself, thinking that if he hadn't asked to go to the washroom that night, his father wouldn't have gone out. And he didn't ask intentionally, because when the urge to go to the washroom comes, you have to go outside. So, he says, "Oh, why did I take my father outside?" And what that thing was, that remains unknown. It was like the shape of a horse-drawn carriage. Sometimes we see this type of vehicle where only one person can sit. For example, a rickshaw, but the part in front where the pedals are is missing. There's a horse there, and a man is sitting, wearing a crown and a golden robe, who is driving the horse. Basically, it happened because of fear. Because of fear, they were so scared that they couldn't bear it anymore. If that apparition had intended to do more significant harm, it would have harmed Altaf Kaka too.

But it didn't harm Altaf Kaka any further. He was primarily so frightened that Altaf Kaka's father had passed away. Fear is such a thing that even without any paranormal elements, something terrible can happen, as we hear at various times. And this incident has something terrifying, but that terrifying thing, without attacking people, can cause them to die from fear. This event is a clear example of that. So, that was the incident. So, dear listeners, whenever we are afraid, we should try, we must make the effort, to recite prayers and comfort the person who is scared, so that their fear gradually subsides. If we continue to scare them even more, saying things like "You're done for, you're going to die," then they will become even more traumatized. As a result, they could suffer further harm. It might even be that there's no paranormal activity, but by constantly frightening them, we push them to such a level that they truly start believing they have seen a ghost, when in reality it was nothing. It was their imagination or just a shadow. And in this way, a person can suffer significant harm. So, for this reason, we should not terrify people.
