The walking pants cryptid

You might be familiar with cryptids like Bigfoot, the Moth man, and the Chupacabra but what about the Fresno Nightcrawler? It's one cryptid you may or may not have heard about around the campfire as you take turns telling eerie stories.

This cryptid is not only creepy but also more than a little bizarre and even sort of cute. In a weird way!

Most places have their very own urban legend about a cryptid. New Jersey has "the Jersey Devil", West Virginia has "the Moth man". Well, Fresno, California has "the Fresno Nightcrawlers".

Numerous sightings of an oddly shaped creature (sometimes more than one is seen) have been reported in Fresno, California. While originally seen in the Fresno California area (hence its name) the Fresno nightcrawler has also been spotted in the Yosemite National Park, Billings, Montana, and even as far as Poland.

Appearance

The most bizarre and amusing thing about the Fresno Nightcrawler is it's appearance. Those who have claimed to have seen it describe it as a thin pair of pale ghostly white pants walking, taking long steady strides. Seeing such a sight pass through your yard or while watching your security camera would result in an unusual combination of curiosity, fear, and even amusement.

You lean forward, eyes locked on your home security camera. What is that?

Standing in humanoid form, the Fresno Nightcrawler is mostly all legs, no arms, with a much smaller upper body. Most video evidence recorded is either out of focus or too grainy to make out (isn’t that always a typical inconvenience with capturing cryptid evidence on camera?) so it's difficult to get a clear description of what the upper part of the Fresno Nightcrawler really looks like. To add to the description, the Fresno Nightcrawler isn't very tall either only standing no more than 1.5 meters.

First sighting

One night, in 2007, a local resident of Fresno, California was startled to glance at their home security system and see two peculiar figures resembling pale white pants striding across their front yard. Was it people dressed up, standing on stilts and pulling a prank? A common nocturnal creature in the region simply misidentified? It didn’t look like either, but they couldn’t debunk it.

The Fresno Nightcrawler also goes by the name “The Fresno alien” because by the looks of it, there is no way it's from this world. 🛸

Most sightings reported have happened at night and have occurred on personal video surveillance cameras.

Is it an alien? A creature from another dimension?

While creepy and quite odd looking, the Fresno Nightcrawler looks relatively harmless. In fact, it might just be as curious about our world as we are of it.

But what is it? There are numerous explanations of what the Fresno Nightcrawler could be.

  • Pants being controlled by a wire (like a puppet)
  • A person walking on stilts

Quite a few sightings have easily been debunked and confirmed a hoax as they only turned out to be someone controlling a pair of pants on a wire and puppeteering them. Other hoaxes of the Fresno Nightcrawler involved video manipulation.

  • A crane or crane like bird walking
  • A misidentified animal such as a deer standing upright

It could be easily be a misidentified creature. It's nighttime and with the camera being out of focus or not capturing at the right angle to clearly see, it's easy to see how a common animal could be mistaken for a cryptid.

  • A new species

Or maybe it's an entirely new species all together! What should we call it?

What’s your theory?

The last sighting of this creature occurred in 2020. However that doesn't mean more recent sightings haven't happened since.

The Fresno Nightcrawler - Fresno, California's very own cryptid and its strange yet fun appearance has gained some notable popularity. You can even get a fun plush of them.
