The Dollhouse

There was only one rule: don't open the door.

By Denzel CassarPublished about a year ago 1 min read

“There was only one rule: don't open the door”, Julia stated. She outstretched her arms to prevent entry into the room. The taller girl behind her pushed past Julia and placed her hand on the doorknob. She shot Julia a smile before walking into the mysterious room. The door shut behind her, leaving Julia alone in the eerie hallway.

After much consideration, Julia entered through the forbidden door only to be led into a large, empty room. The door slammed behind her, and in fright, Julia rushed into the hallway. The sound of footsteps echoed just beneath her. She cautiously peered over the mezzanine but noticed there was nobody present.

A cold rush of wind blew behind her, and she glanced towards the hallway. As she turned back around, she noticed a young girl with pale skin and two slashes across her eyes. Standing only a few feet away, she raised a doll with gashes over its eyes and unfolded a sinister grin. Julia’s body froze as she noticed the doll looked identical to herself.

Horrified, Julia ran back down the hallway and tried to hide inside one of the rooms, but every single door was locked. Suddenly, the forbidden door opened autonomously. Still fearful, Julia ducked inside and shut the door behind her. In the corner of the room was a dollhouse and three human-sized dolls with scars across their eyes. Julia recognized one of them as the girl who first disappeared into the room.

Suddenly, a large bang sounded from outside the door. She turned back and then everything went silent. As she faced the dollhouse again, the three dolls stood in front of her, clutching her arms. Before she could turn to run, the pale-skinned girl appeared within inches of her and whispered, “let's… play… dolls”.

Goodness… dolls are trippy. This was great. I think this is the only submission that made use of them. Great work!
