I didn’t expect something so awful to happen once we decided to explore an abandoned building for fun. My friends and I were weird like that, we weren’t the kind of friend group to go hang out in the mall or watch movies.
My friends, Sara, Ben, and Michael were the ones to find the dead body. The man was sitting down, his head leaning against his chest. There were multiple bite marks all over his body. Sara pulled out her phone to call 911.
She was standing close to the body. None of us were expecting the body to reach out and grab her leg. Then before any of us could do anything, he bit her hand. Sara screamed.
Ben, Michael, and I fought off the guy we thought was dead. He swiped out a hand and scratched Ben on his wrist. He got him bad. I could see the blood flowing down his arm.
Sara was eventually pulled free, and the four of us ran out of there. Then Sara and Ben both fell to the ground.
Michael and I thought for a second they had tripped over something, but then we saw our friends were convulsing, their limbs moving in all kinds of crazy directions. It appeared so unnatural, and it scared the hell out of me.
Then Sara and Ben stopped. They were no longer breathing. Michael and I started to panic until they both slowly started to get back up. Sara and Ben were foaming at the mouth, their eyes glowing a bright red.
They extended their arms toward us, moaning. Michael ran over to embrace Sara. He always had a crush on her.
I wasn’t expecting her to bite into his neck, ripping out a chunk of flesh. Ben joined in, biting off Ben’s ear. I was frozen in fear, watching my friend get eaten alive.
I watched as Sara and Ben tore open Michael’s stomach, pulling out his entrails. It reminded me of overly large spaghetti noodles I saw in a cartoon once. Michael had stopped screaming after a while.
Then they stopped eating him when he opened his eyes to reveal a glowing red. That’s when I started to run for my life. Luckily, my friends were pretty slow, but their moans echoing behind me was horrible to listen to.
I wouldn’t doubt that was going to haunt me for the rest of my life.
I didn’t stop running until I reached the car. I locked myself inside, attempting to start the vehicle. I put the key in the ignition, grateful we had decided to take my car on this random trip.
I turned on the lights. Sara, Ben, and Michael were barely leaving the building, heading toward me. I was planning on leaving. Taking off and never looking back.
I would tell everyone my friends were killed by a crazy maniac. He was sick, and now made all three of them sick.
I pictured my three friends receiving the proper treatment, and I stayed by their side until they were better. We all share a group hug, laughing and crying at the same time.
However, I knew that was a lie.
They would never be healed. They were most likely going to become lab rats, and the government wanting to come up with a crazy experiment to help benefit them in the long run.
They wouldn’t have anyone else. No one would be there for them.
I didn’t want my friends to be alone.
So I stepped out of the car and opened my arms to them. The pain was immense when they swarmed me. As I lay there dying, I couldn’t help but smile, happy that in the end, we were always going to be together.
We were never going to be apart.
Never.
