The call will not come now.

As soon as I entered the house carrying vegetables, little Fahad ran toward me. Excitedly, he looked up at me and said, “Papa… please listen to me first!”

Right behind him, Muhammad Ali also turned toward me with joy and exclaimed, “Papa! Papa! A cat has brought five kittens into our room!”

Fahad explained eagerly, “Papa, there are five of them—one black, one white, two brown, and one with the color of the mother cat.”

Muhammad Ali added, “Papa, the cat brought them from Saqib’s house. They are so sweet and innocent. They are about the size of little chicks. And they drink milk and meow so softly.”

At that moment, I was very tired, but I still listened carefully to what they had to say. My children usually do their homework at home after school, sitting with their mother.

I said to them, “That’s very good information, but you must not touch the kittens. The mother cat might scratch you, and then you’ll get hurt. It will cause a lot of trouble.”

Despite my warning, little Fahad picked up the black kitten, and the mother cat didn’t object at all.

“Oh really?” I asked with feigned surprise. Fahad, a little startled, said, “I just wanted to hold it for love. Ali also held it.”

I warned them seriously, “You never touch kittens without permission. They can scratch, and if the cat gets angry, it will claw you. Understand?” Then the children went back to their mother to continue their studies.

That evening, when I returned home exhausted, I found many other children of the same age in the house. Little Fahad and Muhammad Ali had brought friends to see the kittens. The mother cat seemed worried by so many children, but she quietly fed her babies while all the children watched in amazement.

Later, when night fell, I sent all the other children home and went inside with my kids. We all went to sleep.

Around two o’clock in the morning, the cats’ loud meowing woke me up. I was exhausted, but the noise kept me awake. My children and wife were also awakened. When the noise didn’t stop, Fahad grabbed a plastic basket and went outside.

With the light, I saw the cat standing protectively in front of a stray cat, keeping it away from her kittens. I angrily threw a stick at the stray cat, hitting it on the back. It immediately ran away, leaping over the wall. Once the intruder was gone, the mother cat calmed down, gathered her kittens, and I returned to my room.

Fahad, rubbing his eyes, asked, “Papa, why was the cat crying?” I explained, “A stray cat came to eat her kittens, that’s why she was yelling.”

“Why, Papa?” he asked again. Feeling tired, I said sternly, “Go to sleep now, I’m very tired.”

Seeing my frustration, Fahad stayed quiet and rested against me. Soon, I too fell asleep.

Around three-thirty in the morning, the cats’ meowing woke me again. This time, my wife and children were awake too. I was about to go outside when my wife said, “Wait, I’ll check.” She went out and, just as she turned on the light, the stray cat leapt over the wall and ran away. The mother cat immediately calmed down and returned to her kittens.

In the morning, we decided to build a wooden shelter in the front yard for the cat and her kittens so they could stay safely. That way, no stray would bother them again. I also arranged for milk to be provided for them.

Seeing my young son’s courage and his compassion for the animals touched my heart deeply. Little Fahad had not only protected the kittens but also shown the kind of empathy and bravery that made me proud beyond words.

“I’m glad, Papa!” he said happily, hugging me tightly. I was overjoyed to see such kindness and concern in my little boy’s heart, a feeling that I will never forget.
