The Bug Attack from King Kong (2005) Will Traumatize Me Forever

This scene has haunted me ever since I was a child.

I'm one of those horror fans who is a massive fan of the Monsterverse of Godzilla and King Kong. I have watched so many of these films already, and really enjoyed how brutal these beasts can be, going after anyone that would dare to mess with them.

King Kong is definitely one of these few menaces that will take anyone down to remain on top of his game. While he is terrifying in his own way, he will never compare to one particular monster that left me fearing for my own life in the theater.

I'm a huge fan of the original King Kong, and the recent one known as Skull Island.

However, the one that really stood out to be out of all the films was the remake of King Kong that was released in 2005. The island was really focused in this version, and it was freaking scary as hell. Skull Island also did focus on the island too, but the 2005 version was much darker and disturbing when it came to the threats the characters were up against.

One of these threats…was giant insects.

And I hated this sequence with every fiber of my being.

I can't deny however, that this scene was brilliantly directed.

The insects were quiet, kind of like in real life, and they attacked the group of men without any hesitation. A large chunk of them were brutally killed, and it was so hard to watch. One death that was so disturbing was one dude that was eaten alive by huge leeches. And I was in shock that you could still hear his screams as one of them started to swallow his whole head.

One dude that I thought was smart tried to climb out of the bug infested area, but he was immediately grabbed by a clawlike hand and pulled into the bug wall. I really did appreciate how the director chose not to hold back in this scene, it really showed how this island was a threat, and no matter where you fell into, it was death for everyone present.

One scene that also really got to me, was when the main character was attacked by a bunch of huge bugs, and he tried his best to fight them off as they crawled all over him.

I think the only scene that 'bugged' me was when one random character shot all of the bugs off of his friend with a machine gun, and yet, he never hit his friend once.

Plot armor is so annoying in movies, but in case, I think I can overlook it, because of how messed up this whole sequence was.

I literally tested myself after so many years in the theater as a child when I first watched this scene, through the power of YouTube. I was able to hold off watching it, but damn, I struggled to get through that scene with those things crawling all over the main character. They look so disgusting and unnatural, the CGI was truly EXCELLENT in this film.

What a shame that CGI looked so much before than it does now.

The early 2000s were truly one of the few great eras for horror.

I still can't get over the thought of child me watching this scene in theaters. No one in the theater expected a scene like this, and if I do remember clearly, everyone in the audience did not like his scene.

Do you struggle to get through this scene in the King Kong 2005 remake as much as I do?
