The Best Mystery-Horror Movies on Netflix to Watch Right Now
A list of the best mystery-horror movies that Netflix currently has to offer.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
Brian Cox stars as Tommy, a coroner in a small town who is teaching his son Austin (Emile Hirsch) the family business. They get their not-so-normal late night delivery of an unidentified young woman that had been found at the scene of a multiple homicide. The sheriff on the case needs answers by morning because the circumstances on how she was found are baffling law enforcement. This leads to the duo staying overnight to examine Jane Doe, and things about this specific body just really are not making much sense. Her exterior looks unharmed and almost perfect, but her organs are telling a different story. The very, very eerie mystery unfolds almost in real time.

Hush (2016)
I know you think home invasion and slash horror is overplayed, but this terrifying film is very much an original idea. It stars Kate Siegel, who also co-wrote the screenplay, and her husband Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Haunting of Hill House, and Gerald's Game) directs the film. It follows a deaf and mute author, Madison Young, who is stalked by a masked lunatic with a crossbow in her isolated woodland home. It's an instant classic, even Stephen King said so.

In the Tall Grass (2019)
This is the latest of our favorite horror novelist Stephen King’s book-to-screen adaptations. The film is written and directed by Vincenzo Natali, who is best known for writing and directing science fiction films such as Cube, Cypher, and Splice. The story begins with two siblings Becky and Cal DeMuth, played by newcomers Laysla De Oliveira and Avery Whitted. Becky is six months pregnant and not able at the moment to provide for a child. She decides adoption is the best option and the two siblings take a road trip to San Diego to meet the prospective family willing to adopt her unborn child. We first meet the brother and sister in their car on their journey through what seems to be the middle of nowhere. During a discussion, Becky gets triggered by Cal's fast food hamburger and gets sick, which prompts Cal to pull over on the side of the road that is lined with a field of tall grass. Once Becky regains control of her stomach, she hears a young boy crying out for help in the field, and then what seems to be his mother begging the boy not to call out for anyone. Concerned for the boy's safety, the siblings venture into the tall grass and soon realize what a big mistake they've just made.

Gerald’s Game (2017)
Directed by Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Hush and Haunting of Hill House), Gerald's Game is based on Stephen King's 1992 novel of the same title. Carla Gugino stars as Jessie, the wife of very successful and charming Gerald, played by Bruce Greenwood, who steals her away for what she imagines to be a romantic weekend. They end up at their isolated country home away from their mundane, everyday life. Jessie believes it's going to be a laid back couple of days with plans on making dinner and sipping wine with her husband. Gerald, on the other hand, has other things in mind and thinks their marriage is missing a little kink. This is when Gerald begins showing the viewers his overly aggressive and selfish side when he forcefully handcuffs his wife to the bedpost and springs a surprise rape fantasy on her. Jessie half-heartedly plays along and then becomes so uncomfortable that she asks him to remove the handcuffs, but he does not listen. A verbal fight ensues and Gerald dies of a heart attack on top of her—before he has a chance to unlock her handcuffs. Over a period of days she must then confront both her past traumas and what seems to be a psychological break, that may or may not be her hallucinating, as she fights to get free before meeting her demise on the couple's bed next to her dead, decaying husband on the floor.

In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
The year is 1988; three people have simultaneously hemorrhaged to death in the city, causing their brains to turn to mush. Philadelphia police officer Thomas Lockhart, called first to the scenes, thinks this case is his ticket to becoming a detective like his overbearing brother-in-law Holt (Michael C. Hall of Dexter). After visiting all of the crime scenes, Lockhart notices each victim has strange puncture wounds on the back of their neck. This information gives him more of a reason to continue searching for the serial killer as he disregards Holt's wishes of staying out of everyone's way. After that night, every nine years a mysterious serial killer resurfaces for one day only. Lockhart becomes so obsessed investigating the case that you see how it's destroying his personal life and mental health as we jump forward every nine years.

Eli (2019)
A father and mother are seeking treatment for their young son Eli's rare auto-immune disorder that forbids him for going outside without a hazmat suit. The family ends up at a facility ran by immunologist Dr. Isabella Horn (Lillie Taylor of The Conjuring), who has converted an old mansion into a wellness center with promises to cure Eli. After undergoing the first treatment, he begins to experience various supernatural phenomena and ominous messages in fogged mirrors and windows start to appear. During his stay, he befriends Haley (Sadie Sink of Stranger Things), a young girl who he can only converse with through a large glass window in the facility. She begins to be the only person that believes his claims of the house being haunted. It has jump scares, a big twist in the last twenty minutes you can't easily shake after viewing, and towards the film's departure, you are left with wanting more.

The Perfection (2018)
As an adolescent, Charlotte (Allison Williams of Girls and Get Out) was a talented cellist, but she is forced to leave her dreams behind at the prestigious academy in Boston to take care of her dying mother. Over a decade later, when her mother passes away, she returns to her classical music roots but soon realizes in her hiatus she has seemingly been forgotten by many. The scene has been taken over by star pupil Lizzie (Logan Browning) and the two meet officially during a concert in Shanghai, with both jealousy and sexual tension in the air. You will question their relationship the entire movie because the predatory looks Charolette gives Lizzie throughout are almost sociopathic; you can feel jealousy seeping through her more and more as the film goes on. The two end up taking a bus trip together and that is when the confusion for the viewers and both women begin to start. What is wrong with Lizzie? You'll find out soon enough, as the story actually rewinds and points out things you might have missed along the way.

Fractured (2019)
Ray (Sam Worthington of Avatar) and Joanne Monroe (Lilly Rabe of American Horror Story) are on a road trip home with their daughter Peri after Thanksgiving dinner with extended family. A brief trip to a rest stop turns chaotic and leaves Ray with a head injury and Peri wounded after falling into a pit of a construction site. With the hospital only up the road, Ray drives to the emergency room despite his head injury. The doctor is concerned and orders a a CT scan on Peri and asks one of the nurses to escort Joanne and Peri to another floor for testing, leaving Ray by himself in the waiting room. After a significant amount of time goes by, he finds out that both his daughter and wife have vanished and the hospital has no record of them arriving. As he desperately tries to find answers, he comes to notice something far from normal is occurring inside of the hospital.
