The African Horror Story That Reached 1 Million Views on TikTok
How a terrifying folktale called Mama Ojili changed my life overnight
I never expected a ghost story to change everything.
I create short horror videos based on African folklore — stories passed down through whispers, warnings, and firelight. They’re dark, haunting, and filled with meaning. I call the series Ghost of Africa.
One of those stories — The Smile of Mama Ojili — took off faster than I imagined. It crossed 1 million views, gained over 16,000 followers, and filled my comments with people asking, “When’s Part 2?”
But it’s more than just viral numbers. These stories carry weight. Mama Ojili is based on a type of spirit feared in many West African villages — the kind that smiles before it feeds. Through storytelling, I bring those legends to life with realistic visuals, chilling narration, and cultural detail.
I’m building an archive of African horror — one video at a time. From Grandfather Oba to The Woman Who Wore Her Skin Inside Out, my goal is to preserve and modernize the folklore our ancestors used to warn, teach, and terrify.
I believe African horror deserves a global stage.
And with TikTok, we’ve opened the door — now the spirits are walking through it.
