The Abandoned Asylum

The Haunting of Margaret's Past

By Uzair KhanPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Margaret had always been fascinated by the old abandoned asylum on the outskirts of town. It had been closed for years, with rumors of terrible experiments and mistreatment of patients. But Margaret couldn't help but feel drawn to it like something was calling out to her from inside.

One dark and stormy night, Margaret decided to finally explore the asylum. She grabbed her flashlight and made her way through the overgrown gardens and past the rusty gates. As she entered the building, she could feel the weight of the past surrounding her. The air was thick with a musty smell, and the sound of creaking floorboards echoed through the halls.

Margaret started to explore the asylum, moving deeper and deeper into the building. She felt like she was being watched, like there was someone or something following her every move. But she kept going, her curiosity getting the better of her.

As she turned a corner, she came face to face with a patient's room. The door was slightly ajar, and Margaret could hear strange noises coming from inside. She slowly pushed the door open, and what she saw made her blood run cold.

There, lying on the bed, was a patient who had been left behind when the asylum closed its doors. The patient's eyes were sunken and hollow, their skin a sickly shade of grey. Margaret could see the patient's chest rising and falling, but there was something off about it - it was like the patient was breathing in reverse.

Margaret quickly backed out of the room and continued exploring the asylum. But no matter where she went, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being followed. The shadows seemed to move and twist, and she could hear whispering voices coming from the walls.

As she made her way to the basement, she heard a sound that made her heart skip a beat. It was the sound of someone - or something - dragging itself across the floor. She cautiously approached the source of the noise, and what she saw made her scream.

There, lying on the ground, was a patient who had been mutilated beyond recognition. Margaret could barely make out the patient's features through the blood and gore, but what she saw chilled her to the bone. The patient's eyes were missing, replaced by gaping black holes, and their limbs had been twisted and contorted into impossible shapes.

Margaret tried to run, but the asylum seemed to have a hold on her. She was lost in a labyrinth of hallways and rooms, with no way out. The shadows were closing in, and she could hear the whispering voices getting louder and more insistent.

Just as she was about to give up hope, Margaret saw a faint light in the distance. She stumbled towards it, her legs shaking and her heart pounding. As she got closer, she realized that it was the exit - she had finally found her way out of the asylum.

Margaret emerged from the asylum, panting and covered in sweat. She turned around to look back at the building, and what she saw made her gasp in horror. The asylum had disappeared, as if it had never been there in the first place.

Margaret never spoke of her experience again, but she was never the same. She was haunted by nightmares of the asylum, of the patients who had been left behind, and of the shadowy figures that had followed her every move. And she knew that she could never escape the haunting of Margaret's past.
