Building 24
*Disclaimer: This story was written using a technique learned for writing exercizes. A timer was set for 10 minutes, and written without an idea or prompt to work from. For the sake of the experiment, I did not read the story over once I finished writing or do any editing -- & submitted almost immediately after writing out of curiosity for others opinion on the result. At some point, I may eventually do proper editing and polishing and resubmit, possibly in a new submission for the purpose of comparison. Please enjoy the product of this experiment! I would love to know what you think!

The Watcher
A little girl had discovered a small figure carved on a wooden plank hanging on the kitchen wall. Her parents were both busy, and the girl took advantage of this opportunity to ask and answer her own questions about the figure. Etched on the wood in lines and knots was a lady in a gown, standing with grey hair flowing down to her shoulders and watching something open-mouthed and eyes rounded. She looked in shock like seeing something horrible but could do nothing to warn her.

Second Chances
I felt something like a staple pierce my skin. There was another, then another —five of them total— like impossibly sharp fingernails. I was pulled onto my back; my eyes were still squeezed shut. I was trying to pretend to be asleep, but my whole body was tensed, and I couldn’t make my breathing calm or even, no matter how hard I tried. I had never felt fear like I was feeling now. It coiled around my ankles and slithered upwards, leaving each of my limbs immobile as it passed.

Emeril.
Emeril. A short story was written by Chris Fortner Based on a true-life event. My name is Chris, when I was a child in the 90s, I had a strange encounter that would change my life forever. You know when you are a kid you do not have hang-ups on believing in what most people would not, and so sometimes you see things that an adult would not normally be able to see. My story takes place in a small town when I was age three. My parents had decided to go out to a friend's house for a night out. My parents and their friends who we will call John and Deborah had been talking and having a few drinks while I was playing with some toys and watching Disney movies. When it started getting late, I had been laid down to sleep in the spare room, the door was left cracked so that if I had awoken the adults would be able to hear me. Well fast forward a few hours and there was a sound like a child bouncing a ball from the floor to the wall and back again, my parents had thought it was the neighbor, but John and Deborah had stated that the neighbors next to them were gone for the week as well as the apartment above theirs having been unoccupied.

Midnight Burial
Four figures labored at the top of a hill, barely illuminated by the cold autumn moonlight. Dirt was thrown onto a mound, landing with muted thumps that spoke of death. The only other sound to be heard was the grim scraping of shovels across earth and rocks. Two men stood in the hole they were digging, the edge of which already reached above their heads. Ben threw the last shovelful of dirt over his shoulder and the two silently climbed out of the pit. The others began dragging a wrapped up blanket over to the hole. Ben broke the eerie silence. “Hurry up,” he said, reading the time from his pocket watch. “We don’t have long.”

Nighttime Ritual
Delia flits around the house like a horsefly in a hot barn. Dust this room. Vacuum that room. Check the pot on the stove. Dusk is settling in, the sun turning in for the night and the moon about to start its evening rounds. So much to do and so little time left to make sure things are just right for this perfect evening.

Bloodlines - Part 4
It took me a while to really get up and do anything important, and the catalyst for the action was rather mundane: I got hungry. Being that I still had no food, and I had a laundry list of things that I still needed to go out and buy, getting ready for the day shot to the top of my to-do list. Half an hour after I got off my rear and decided to get ready, I was done – though I was beginning to have hunger pains. I hadn't eaten in over twelve hours, and my body was making it very clear that if I didn't get some food in my stomach, its next option was to begin digesting itself.

PLANET PLAGUE
RINGING My ears are ringing. I turned my head to the left and I see my commander staring back at me. Her head severed and eyes wide open. Her face frozen still uttering her last words before the explosion. The sky is Gray now as I turn to my right still clasping the Blood Red Locket. My body feels numb. I close my eyes. Tears running down the sides of my face and I pray that I get out of this alive. I open my eyes and slowly roll over to my side. We were ambushed. Only 2 blocks from our extraction point. Steely hands clasped my shoulder, it's Amy. Her face looks tormented. “Are you alright!” I nodded my head as she helped me to my feet. Pulling out my sidearm as we rushed to cover. In the buildings all around us, men are firing on our position. The crack and thunder of their guns are drawing them to us. Those whose souls are departed but they’re rotting corpses still walk among us hungry for our flesh. This planet is dead! Planet Plague as we call it. From our ship, just a Black Pearl levitating in space. 20 billion souls, all gone now, consumed by the evil that is this Heart Shaped Locket.
