Cashmere Botanical Gardens pt 5 High Summer
And that is how I came to be kneeling in the lily pool, the cold nose of Carls shotgun against my spine. I could see little between my wet bangs other than the Pale Lady as she looked down on the five of us as though we were a show put on for her amusement. Carl didn’t hold me cruelly at gunpoint, but I was hardly in any position to thank him. The creatures arrayed around us, the Brandylou, I supposed, looked on with interest, but I had eyes only for the lady. I hadn’t much cared for the phrase “Meat from my table” and I felt pretty sure I was about to discover more than I ever wanted to.

Cashmere Botanical Gardens pt 2 The Tree Exhibit
I was awoken Tuesday morning by a call from Carl. I had been sleeping poorly, my dreams filled with the strange lady I had encountered on my round that night. The more I studied her, the more I came to believe that she was the statue from the pond, but that was crazy. Statues didn't just get up and walk around on their own. The more I remembered about that night though, the more convinced I became that it had been the woman depicted in that statue. Was she someone who worked for the park? Did we have an actor who portrayed her for meet and greets?

Cashmere Botanical Gardens pt 4 midnight revels
The four of us walked back into the Gardens and towards the long buildings that had reminded me of class rooms. Doctor Thurston led us past rows of growing trays and glassed off rooms with biohazard signs on them until we reached a door with the legend Hadrian L Thurston MD on it. The doc slid a key in and we all piled into the cozy space. It was bigger than our security cubicle but not by much. Most of the space was taken up by bookshelves and the mahogany desk that Thurston planted himself behind. Carl stood at his right, and I took the seat across from him as Randy leaned against the wall near the door. Randy looked tired and unhappy to be there, but I guess when Carl called you, you answered the phone.
