Mind games taken way too far; explore the disturbing genre of psychological thrillers that make us question our perception of sanity and reality.
One More Month
It was a beautiful morning. As beautiful as it could be in the year 2032. It is a time where everything the sun touches, it burns. Sam woke up four minutes before his alarm. He hoists himself to the side of the bed, where his feet aligned perfectly with his slippers. He pulled his curtains open to greet his dying lawn. Sam sat down to digitally read the paper. A front page headline reads “Only 1 month to go!!”.

Ouroboros
Can I take a moment of your time to tell you about the most fabulous little creature? Now, you’re probably thinking it’s some rare bird with bright multicolored plumage that lives in the mysterious heart of the Amazon, or perhaps a cuddly bright-eyed marsupial that looks like a living teddy bear, and obeys and dotes like the most loyal lapdog. You’re wrong on both accounts. However, if at the end of my introductory question, the image of a small brown retinentia leech from the Mississippi bayou entered your mind then you may give yourself a pat on the back.

DARK MATTER
I wake up and with my eyes still shut, a long warm breath leaves my body with its shallow sound echoing through my head like a raspy whisper. The sound is somewhat haunting but I find relief in its chilling resonance, it lets me know that I am still alive, still breathing. My breath still trekking its way from my lungs to my throat and out my mouth into what my tightened, bumpy skin tells me is a cold world, comes to a sudden halt. I know something is wrong when I feel a warm, moist current flow, in the same way, my breath did, onto the skin of my face and it radiates down to my neck and shoulders.

The Noise
Boom! The sound echoed throughout my 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom studio apartment. It sounded as if a nuclear bomb had been let off. The entire building shook, a bright red light came from the sky then it everything went silent. Not a normal silence, but that eerie silence that you see in movies that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It didn’t last for any longer than a minute. I hopped out of my bed as quickly as possible and ran straight to the window. Everything outside looked normal. I scurried back into my bedroom , frantically searching for the remote so I could watch the news.

The Marked Man
In the dark corner, I sit, looking out at the world’s inhabitants with one eye open. If only it were so simple as to go out among the people and cherish the ever-fleeting glimpse we perishable souls have of life, but nothing is ever as simple as we pretend it to be. Sooner or later, it all succumbs to something. The flood will rise and fire will drop from the sky. It’s coming, I know it. And so I sit and wait to stand up from this chair and commit my inevitable deeds when the time comes.

The Family Tree
A carcass of metal and scrap lay silent. Green nature snuffs out the structure covering its lifeless walls with life. A tree stands powerfully in the middle of the ruins. Its branches and roots hug the structure like a mother embracing her child. The tree’s leaves sing a lullaby in the wind as its branches sway back and forth, lovingly caressing the surrounding wilds. Patches of flowers create figures from mounds of earth. The flowers of every color imaginable surround the tree with admiration as she opens up her leaves to let beams of light softly kiss their petals. Dark clouds slowly crawl across the sky blocking the rays nutrients. Rain begins to quietly fall first hitting the tree and then rolling off the leaves and branches like tears. The tears land atop the flowers and the rest of the surrounding wilds, quenching their thirst. Faint whispers come from the tree’s trunk emitting ghostly memories. Rain continues to drip and run down the tree as if it softly weeps for the past and nurtures the present.

Glass Nightmares
The Girl’s eyes opened, and she groaned. There was a… wetness around her, and a sharp, almost unbearable pain in her arms. Blinking a few times, she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes with her left wrist, and let out a small, strangled cry of pain as something pushed deeper into her wrist. The wetness lingered at her eye, and she tried to blink it away, but it only irritated her eye further. Struggling to sit up, The Girl found she’d been laying on the ground, in a small puddle of blood, and a much larger field of shattered glass.
