It is believed, that on the night of Halloween, the dead resurface on earth. Perhaps not the zombies you'd see in classic horror films, but the spirits of the dead, reveal themselves more openly. It stems from the Celtic belief that on the 31st of October, the seasons collide, opening a rift between the underworld where dead spirits linger.
