Boxed In
Gusts of wind swirled the front doorstep of a quaint suburban home in the small town of Joelton. Autumn leaves were whisked away from the brick landing of the fourth house on the left of Market Drive. The home was a wholesome blue-grey, two-story contemporary farmhouse with white trimming, a large oak door, and dark blue shudders. A black drone with four articulating rotors hovered over the concrete landing, carrying a large package. It lowered the package to the ground and a unison of clicks could be heard as the drone released the box. After allowing it to settle, the drone navigated to the door, and with robotic precision, rang the doorbell. It then quickly backed itself out from under the awning and disappeared into the skyline.

The Fireplace
There’s something living in my fireplace. The ancient thing hasn’t worked since we moved in, and I imagine it’s been decades since a real flame scorched the insides of the cinder block chimney. Although, the blackened space where logs once rested is evidence that it did, indeed, once upon a time burn red and orange. Now, the only signs of life coming from the old fireplace, is an occasional spider emerging from the cobweb laden hearth. That was of course, until I started hearing the noises.

The President's Chair
Stage Right: Interior, apartment living room. A man sits slouched on a loveseat facing a TV screen. He is wearing a headset. The muffled sound of yelling tells us that his volume is louder than necessary. The coffee table is filled with books that vary in thickness. Along the back wall we see a light through a door frame with the sound of pots and pans rattling and a woman's voice humming.

A Favor for a Friend
Caleb heard a soft buzz outside of his window. He slightly opened the blinds to see. A small mechanical drone was dropping off the package. It teetered slightly as the wind pushed it, but found its proper path onto his porch. Caleb stepped outside onto his front porch and looked down at the package.

An Unexpected Gift
Chris saw the drone flying away from his apartment and raised an eyebrow. He hadn't ordered anything, certainly nothing that a drone would deliver, and he came up the stairs two at a time before his crackhead neighbors came out to steal it. Calling them crackheads might have seemed a little disparaging, but Chris had actually come home and found them smoking crack on the front porch, so he thought it more than fair. The Palm Breeze weekly rentals were far from posh, but they were the best he could afford. Chris had a dead-end job that barely paid him minimum wage and hardly worked him part-time these days. He was behind on his rent, looking at ramen noodles for dinner again, and, if he was lucky, he might get halfway through tonight's football game before they shut his cable off.

To Alice, Love John
The box arrived early Friday morning before work, cheerful ding of her doorbell alerting her to the arrival. And while such deliveries weren’t unheard of, Alice paused at the sight of the one square foot cube of cardboard that had her heart suddenly racing.
