NIGHTLIGHT
It was the screech of tyres that awoke me. That pleading squeal when a great weight is forced to stop. I was awake at once, knowing that it must be before five or my alarm would have already split the air. I wrestled myself from bed and stumbled towards the high windows, still blinking against the cold morning light. It felt shrill in my eyes.

Christopher
Christopher. My poor, sweet Christopher. He was telling the truth the entire time. The authorities, believing him to be a madman, threw him in the cold, dark dungeon with nothing to keep him company but his terror. For it was a true terror that he had witnessed. A terror that would have him shaking, screaming and crying while constantly talking with the dungeon walls trying to convince them that the words he spoke were true. In rags he was, dirty and stinking, wasting away to the bone with neither food nor drink and a grotesque, contorted, horrified expression on his face as he incessantly beseeched the walls to believe him.

The atmosphere crackled with mystery and intrigue, like a forgotten secret waiting to be unearthed.

The Tired Driver
A Singaporean driver was driving up a Malaysian highway to visit his relatives in Kuala Lumpur. On the way, somewhere between here and Malacca halfway through the journey, his car broke down. This was in the middle of nowhere, rubber trees everywhere. He had no idea where to turn for help and none of the vehicles whizzing by would stop. It was getting very late and the man was getting desperate. He looked hard around him to see if there were any signs of life. Then, he saw a light deep among the rubber trees. Well, there had to be someone there who could help, he thought.
