Whispers of the Wraithmore Curse
In the small, seemingly tranquil town of Ravenswood, nestled in the heart of the woods, a sinister secret lurked. Solemnly Swear. Top Story - October 2023. Content Warning.
I recently wrote this for NYC Midnight's 500-word Fiction Challenge. This was my first round submission, and I placed in the top 10 in my group to move on to the second round! This was definitely a good exercise for me. For anyone who isn't familiar, the challenge divides participants into different groups where you're assigned a genre, an action, and an object that you must incorporate into a story that is no more than 500 words. My genre was horror, action was breathing in second hand smoke, and object was a glass jar. There's definitely a lot of things I'd like to change about this little story, but I'm leaving it as is because I'm pretty proud of the fact that I placed with it.
