Storm

Megan's Storm

By Ryan RiveraPublished 8 years ago 3 min read

It was and average day for Megan. She was going around town running some errands. As she was heading home, she saw a new bookstore. She was a book nerd. She couldn’t get enough of them. She pulled into the parking lot and headed in. It was a small book store, which, to her, were the better ones. She didn’t have anything wrong with the big name brand stores but she preferred the small ones. As she was walking through shelves, she came across one that her friend Paul had recommended to her. Haunted Memories by Roger Green. It was on paperback and it was on sale. She grabbed it up and headed to the cashier. As she walked out of the store she noticed the sky getting a little dark. The wind was picking up a bit, she got a little excited. She knew a storm was coming.

She arrived back home and unpacked the things she bought. By then it was already starting to sprinkle. She made herself a sandwich and a glass of soda. She placed her new book on the counter. After she ate her food, she went to clean up a bit and get changed into her comfort clothes, which usually consisted of an oversized shirt and some slip on shoes. She grabbed the book and went over to her rocking chair where she already loved to read. The chair would creak every time she rocked, the sound although loud, was soothing to her. She looked out her window and noticed the rain was picking up a bit. She loved the sound it made when the rain hit her metal roof , it soothed her. The clapping of the thunder and the flash of lightning, she was a storm nut.

As the rain fell, it started rain harder and more rapid. She heard louder clinks and clanks on roof. She knew it was no longer just raining, but hailing, as well. She could hear the wind picking up. It sounded like it was screaming outside. The hail was now pounding on her roof. She saw a few pieces of her roof now falling off. With the wind blowing the way it was, the hail began to hit her window. After a few moments, her window was shattered into pieces by the hail. Glass flew towards Megan, who was still in her chair by the window. She barely had time to raise the book to try to block herself, but it wasn't good enough. Her hand was cut up by all the flying glass. Blood started to spill out of wounds and soon covered the book. She looked at her hands and saw one large piece of glass stuck into the top of her hand and fused her hand to the book. She was screaming in pain. She grabbed the book with her other hand and tried to pull her hand free. She didn't have the strength. She knelt down and placed the book on ground and place her foot on it and stood up as quickly as she could. Instead of the glass coming free of the book, the larger end came through her hand, leaving a large hole in hand. She was in so much shock that she didn't feel the pain at all. Instead, she raised her hand and peered through the new hole that was there. She put her hand back down and at that moment, a piece of her roof that had fallen off from storm came flying in and straight through her neck. Her head came off, her lifeless body rolled under her bed. Her body fell into the chair. The chair began to rock again, and creak.
