The Cursed History of Chhayaganj

Chhayaganj is a remote village in the southern part of Bengal. At the end of this densely forested village stands Raibari - the erstwhile zamindar's house, now a haunted place. Locals avoid this route, especially after sunset. The story begins on a terrible new moon night in 1975...

Zamindar Radhavallav Roy was a man of very strict nature. His wife Shyamadevi practiced Tantric Sadhana secretly. The elders of the village still remember that fateful night when Shyamadevi started Chandi Path for the last time. Navincharan Mondal, who was a teenager at the time, said: "That night we saw from a distance how blue light was coming out of all the windows of the house. Then we heard unusual screams. The next morning..."

Mysterious murder

The next morning the villagers saw a horrible scene. The dead bodies of seven members of the zamindar family are scattered in different parts of the house. The zamindar's condition was most appalling - his heart was cut open in the chest and kept in a puja dish. His wife Shyamadevi was found dead in the corner of the shrine, her face mutilated. But surprisingly, there was no sign of their eight-year-old daughter Madhvi.

The police investigation turned up nothing. A local Ojha said, "This is not the work of any human being. Shyamadevi has summoned evil forces by chanting the wrong mantra." Since then the house has been abandoned. Villagers notice that every new moon, children's cries and footsteps are heard from the house.

Arrival of explorers

Summer 2015. During college holidays, four friends - Roni, Tanya, Adil and Priya - want to make a documentary about ghostly places. While searching on the internet, they found about Raibari in Chhayaganj. Talking to some of the locals, they came to know about the horrible history of the house.

Village elder Navincharan warns them: "Grandfathers, don't go to that house. Syamadevi's spirit is still trapped there. And Madhavi... she is looking for a playmate." But friends ignore him.

The beginning of the cursed night

6:30 PM, they reach Raibari. The house looked even more eerie in the sunset light. Adil sets up his high-end camera. Priya starts taking notes. Ronnie looked around the house. Tanya was the first to notice the abnormality - someone seemed to be standing behind her.

At 7:15 PM, they entered the main room. Adil's camera catches a strange shadow that takes human form and disappears. "These are camera glitches," laughs Ronnie. But Tanya's body was shaking.

A collection of ghostly events

9:00 PM, Tanya goes upstairs alone for a walk. Suddenly he hears the child's voice: "Didi, will you play hide and seek with me?" He came down quickly, his face pale.

At 10:30 PM, Priya goes to the bathroom. In the mirror he saw a girl standing behind him - completely black eyes, a bloody smile on his face! She screams and comes out of the bathroom.

11:00 PM, Roni gets a message on his phone from an unknown number: "You all will die tonight" Caller ID on the phone shows "Madhavi Roy".

midnight horror

At 12:00 midnight, suddenly all the doors and windows started closing by themselves. They hear someone pulling something heavy on the ground floor. Adil's camera started recording. They went down and saw a dead body wrapped in white cloth being dragged by an invisible person!

Suddenly someone pulls Priya hard. He falls to the ground. The others go to catch him, but an invisible force pulls him back into the darkness. The others ran out of the house in fear.

The sad truth of the next day

In the morning, police and villagers found Priya unconscious at home. He lost consciousness. Everyone is horrified by what Adil caught on camera:

• Black-eyed girl standing on balcony

• Blood is dripping from the walls

• Invisible hand pulls Priya

Ojha Ramhari of the village explains: "Madhavi has made you playmates. She is tired of playing alone. She will stay with you from now on."

permanent curse

From then on, strange things happen in the lives of the friends:

• New scratches appear on Ronnie's body every day

• Tanya speaks in an unknown language at night

• A shadow of a girl is seen in each picture of Priya

• An extra face is always caught on Adil's camera

The house has become even more terrifying now. Locals see:

• Lights on in the house at night

• The swing swings by itself

• The girl standing at the window calls out to passers-by

Extreme caution:

"If you feel someone standing behind you while reading this story, don't look around. If you hear a baby crying at night, ignore it. And never look at Raibari. Because Madhavi is still looking for a playmate... and she might be standing behind you right now."
