"I was walking down the street and I herd the footstep from behind, it's as if someone was following me, officer why aren't you listening?!"
It was 9:45 of Saturday's eve, when Jane exclaimed this at the officer, with a look of frustration, her jaws clenched, eyes intense, brows furrowed and skin that turned somewhat red at face, from the pale state, in which she was found by Lucas, the officer on night patrol.
With his eyes centered at her, and a nonchalant look he asks her in a calm tone indicating somewhat of disbelief to her claims,
"Calm down mam. It might be possible that you merely heard a passerby, or maybe you're just too tired and hearing weird noises. Happens due to overwork."
He attempted at comforting and calming her down but taking the conversation a bit forwarded,
"I remember my dad having similar hallucinations, although he was more of a drunkard 'hallucinator' imagining random faces, and then fighting and killing them off like terminating demons, in his own delusions.
Some said he's lunatic, others said he's possessed. Years down the line and now we have people officially claiming to reside in "delulu" over Instagram, probably he was merely a gen-z"
He chuckled at his own statement, while the frustration at Jane's towered, and she exclaimed,
"DOES THIS SEEM LIKE A JOKE TO YOU?! I, A LADY JUST BARELY SURVIVED A SUPPOSED ATTACK BY SOMEONE AND YOU HAVE TO RECITE AN ANECDOTE ABOUT YOUR LUNATIC FATHER?
For the record, I would like to affirm that I am neither lunatic nor possessed and NOT AT ALL DELUSIONAL now will you please be serious?!!"
"Calm down lady, I am just trying to lighten up the environment." He said in somewhat more serious and attentive tone, to bring down her temper, and then went on with, "Even if there was someone he's gone now, and he most probably isn't coming back."
"And how are you so sure about it officer?" Jane asked in a tone of skepticism.
"Madam, in all such crimes, the criminals don't approach the same target again and again, once it slips out of their reach. Besides you have noticed him now, he knows you'll be more vigilant and he may find some trouble as you have informed the authorities too, besides if you wish I may drop you to your place as well."
"No thanks, I may go by myself, my house is just nearby, I've almost reached." she replied.
"Fine by me." he said before letting her go her way, as he noticed a silhouette around the electric pole at the corner of street that had apparently been standing their for the last 10 mins of their talks.
He slowly tried to approach it before, it turned into thin air before he could reach it, so he finally turned and moved towards his car to leave.
The next morn, Jane was stunned at the headline that read,
Serial killer apprehended after killing three people last night, by the local police.
"See!! I told him! It was a serial killer, good lord I escaped it and survived." she told herself. But was later spine chilled as she proceeded to read the news following the headline, it went like:
"The killer identified as James Miller, killed first, a watchman, then a night duty police officer, took his uniform and killed another third unidentified victim who also tried to reach a lady before succumbing to his wounds.
Miller managed to hide the last victim from lady, though he attempted to take the lady with him, to torture and kill separately later, but apparently a dark silhouette like figure was around them the whole time, and to avoid any large commotion, he let her go."
