She had her back turned to the wall beside my gate with her head resting there as well. I noticed she was crying profusely. Her dress was stained with blood -- the butt area. She was about 12 years of age. I walked towards her and gently turned her over. Her eyes were swollen.
I asked her the problem for her state now. She didn't reply. I took her by the hand and led her inside. I first took her to the bathroom to wash off the stain and rushed in to get the new sanitary pad I just bought on my way back. I also rushed to the woman across the street that sells undies to buy the one of her size as the one she was putting on got stained too.
All these I was doing without a second thought. The only thing on my mind was to help this little girl clean up from the stain and then take her back home to her parents or guardian. I cleaned her up, offered her food which she rejected. I wanted to ask her the reason she was crying earlier but her voice got in immediately. "I can't do this"! She exclaimed.
I was shocked and confused at the same time. "You can't do what?" I asked. She looked at me in a bold manner.
"I was sent to kill you. A friend of yours came to us with the notion that you're standing in her way of getting promoted in the office. She said your boss favours you more than any other person in that office. And so she wants to have you killed.
The things you saw earlier were just to get your attention. You were the only one that saw me. No one else did. But you showed me kindness and love. You proved there are still good people out there. Your kindness made me reconsider my mission."
I was just standing there with my mouth wide opened. I didn't know whether to run or attract passerbys. I was just too shocked to utter a word. She turned into an old woman and vanished into the thin air. Before she did, she dropped a message.
"Don't stop being kind. You have a good heart. Sometimes, a good heart is what it takes to conquer an evil heart."
THE ENCOUNTER
On our way back from the club last night, our car broke down. It was 9:45 PM. I went out with my friends. We were four in number. We got down and started pushing the car to get it to a safe place. There was no sight of any mechanic to repair the car. We decided to spend the night inside the car.
We pushed the car out of the main road and entered an area with the sign post that read "Welcome to Akim Mortuary." We stopped 'cause we became tired of pushing. The area was really quiet but we noticed a woman that was still selling corn by that time of the night.
It was a little bit strange 'cause she was the only one there outside that mortuary gate. She just sat there fanning the corn. One of my friends suggested we buy corn from her. We all agreed and proceeded to get the corn. We bought and went back to the car. After eating, we slowly drifted to sleep.
The next morning, we woke up to go look for a mechanic that would fix our car. My friend and I were sent to go look for one. On our way out, we saw a car with posters of a deceased at the front of the mortuary gate. The picture in the poster caught my attention. I couldn't help it but dragged my friend at a corner.
"Isn't that the picture of the woman we bought corn from yesterday?" I asked shivering in fear. She looked closely at the picture and was shocked. "Yes!" She answered. "Jesus! Don't tell me we bought a corn from a dead woman?! She asked. A voice behind us interrupted. We turned back slowly with shaky legs.
"Yes. You ate my corn yesterday. I'm happy I was able to sell my last corn before I would be buried." She said.
We were immediately frightened. We didn't even utter a word. We raced off in a flash. We didn't stop running till we reached the park. As for our friends that were still at that area, we called them when we were already home.
