Rudolf Heinz - Dadaist Animator

Rudolf Heinz was a German animator working in the early years of film. He brought ideas from Dada and Surrealism into animation. Only three films remain. Angels (1922) Dada No Man (1923) and, importantly, Dada Freud (1923).

Dada Freud is his imaginative response to street talk in Vienna about Dada Science - and the creation of a new kind of monster. This film is a rare reference in any form of media to Dada Freud. The animation is, therefore, compelling evidence of the early existence of the monster.

Angel (1922)

Angel is the name given to this fragment of Heinz's work. It seems to be a first trial of Heinz’s technique. Some critics point to the lighter nature of this animation and the darker moods in the following year and suggest he experienced some personal tragedy. Very little is known of Rudolf Heinz’s family or personal biography.

Dada Freud (1923)

This film portrays the threat “to the viewer” posed by the emergence of the Id Man, or the darker side of Sigmund Freud’s work.

The film is collage-made from cut outs of daguerreotype prints. It is built around the commonly published portrait of Freud, a photographic enlargement of Freud’s eye from that portrait and his own crude drawing of jaws and teeth.

Although there is some continuity the animation is clearly a collection of various attempts and styles, some more successful than others, including a very crude attempt to make Freud walk.

Dada No Man (1923)

This is another collage-based animation. It does include one frame from Dada Freud. It is not sure how the blue tinting of the animation has been achieved but the final word “Dada” was painted in red, frame by frame.

Death of Rudolf Heinz

At Christmas that year Heinz returned to Stuttgart but was killed in a bar fight between Anarchists and Communists on December 27th, 1923. The location of the brawl stills exists as a bar at number 20, Bebelstraße and is known now as Akermann's Bar and Pub.

Heinz was fighting with the Anarchists.

Rudolf Heinz is buried in Hoppenlau Cemetery.

DADA WATCH Situational Report Loch Ness 11/05/2021

1. Drone footage exists of submersible operating in Loch Ness.

A drone operated by a Birmingham woman has taken vision of a small submersible in the waters of Loch Ness. The recording occurred on 5/5/21 at 11.56 AM. Dada Watch says the pictured craft is consistent with reports of single operator submersibles operating in the waters of the Loch.

Drone operator, Jennifer Knightly, says she was surveying the water at speed when she sighted the craft. "By the time I got back all I caught was the swirl of waters indicating it had dived deeper."

2. Reports of Goliath Frogs being bred in captivity in Inverness

Dada Watch notes with great concern reports that African goliath frogs are being bred in captivity at a facility near Inverness. Police raided the property on 10th May, 2021 after reports of a disturbance.

The site is owned by Creative Corp - the well known food producer. The front of the facility is in egg production with caged hens. At the rear is a fenced off high security area.

Police were called when a staff member who did not have clearance for that area was resisting arrest by security services belonging to the Company. These services, responsible for all Creative Corp facilities, are known as the Blue Shirts.

Police are able to restore order between the parties and the employee agreed to leave. But this was not before press had followed the police to the area and were able to get in position for a photograph of the massive frogs in heated glass cages full of ferns.

Creative Corp was able to get embargo on the publication of the photographs after threatening the media company with trespass.

Greyson Hart, NE Manager for Creative Corp in Scotland, said that the company was very angry.

"This is legitimate research on a new protein source - initially feeding on algae from polluted waters. We are very angry that our right to privacy has been breached in this way. It will give out competitors a great advantage."

Dada Watch fears the frogs are being bred for much more sinister purposes. It is commonly known Creative Corp is owned by the Dada Scientists. Dana Neal of the Inverness Dada Watch task force says: "I am betting those frogs will end up in vivisection so that frog's blood and frog's plasma can be collected from them. Creative Corp have form with this sort of activity. They don't want the protein. They want the living bone marrow."

Creative Corp refused to comment further.

3. Police say emergency call transcript a fake.

Police have called a transcript of an emergency call released last week a fake.

Superintendent Ivan McDonald said no such call was received by the National Emergencies Centre at the time specified.

The hash tag #dadadadaalert released the transcript last week.

Dada Watch comments: " We believe this was a real call. There are many internal consistencies in the comments made by the woman during this call with previously reported Dada Freud incidents. The body of the man described by the woman in her front yard accurately matches descriptions of the body found in the water at Invermoriston."

Voice: And there's a strange color to his skin, very pale, the veins inside a kind of green look to them.

Voice: It's alright the postie is here and he has seen the naked man. He is going to talk to him. Oh no. The naked man is attacking him. He has knocked the Postie over.

(Man's cries in the background)

Voice: He is scratching at his face...

Operator : We have your location as Drumnadrochit, can you confirm...

Voice: (Panting. Fearful) The postie, the postie has rolled away from him...he has got up... he is running. He has escaped. Oh no. The naked man has seen me.
