Playing with bloody Mary

Stories of people who played the game

By ADIR SEGALPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Have you ever dared to stare into a mirror in a dark room and whisper the name "Bloody Mary" three times? Most people laugh it off as a harmless childhood game, but some have encountered something much darker. From ghostly apparitions and terrifying screams to bone-chilling whispers that haunt them to this day, these are the stories of those who summoned Bloody Mary and lived to tell the tale.

One story, shared by a user on Reddit who has since deleted their account, tells of a young boy who tried the ritual with his brother. Desperate for a supernatural encounter, they decided to try "Bloody Mary." They locked themselves in the bathroom, said the name three times, and waited.

After several unsuccessful attempts, they continued chanting the name, hoping something would happen. Then, suddenly, they heard loud crying and desperate sobbing coming from behind the shower curtain, as if a woman had experienced a painful loss.

When they pulled back the curtain, there was nothing there, and the crying stopped. Despite the strange event, the user wasn't sure if it was a close call or if his brother had simply played a trick on him, especially since it happened long before smartphones or speakers could have played the sound.

In another story, a group of teens recounts their experience in a school bathroom. A group of girls decided to play "Bloody Mary." They closed the door, turned off the lights, and began chanting the name. As they turned to face the mirror, they heard a loud noise, and then they saw the door of the farthest stall moving in an impossible, abnormal way. Through the cracks in the door, they saw a woman in a long burgundy dress.

Their knees wobbled, and they screamed, running out of the bathroom. To their surprise, a teacher came to calm them down but couldn't understand what had happened. She thought someone must have played a trick on them, so she opened all the stalls to check, and they were empty. No one had left, but to this day, they can't explain what they saw.

Another story involves a girl named Claudia, who joined a group of friends in playing "Bloody Mary." The next day, she found a black wallet on the street, and inside it was an old black-and-white photo of a woman sitting in a regal chair. There was a note in red writing that said, "These are the people I killed." From that moment on, Claudia experienced a terrifying night, with scratches appearing on her back and arms. She still can't forget that frightening experience.

There are also stories where all they saw were blurry images or distorted reflections. For instance, two friends tried the game in an old bar and started seeing a demonic face form in the mirror. Then they heard a strange noise, like a large dog running down the stairs. They ran after it, but when they reached the stairs, the dog was nowhere to be found.

In another case, a group of girls was playing "Bloody Mary" at a sleepover. After lighting a candle and chanting the name, they heard a terrifying scream from the mirror. It was so loud that the mirror shattered. When they tried to explain the scream to a grown-up in the house, no one else had heard it. The group still can't figure out how that was possible.

There are also stories of blood-like handprints appearing on mirrors after the ritual. One such print appeared on a bathroom mirror at a friend's house. The print was so realistic that when they tried to clean it, the "blood" smeared, like it was real. After that night, no one ever talked about it again.

Is it just an urban legend, or does Bloody Mary really exist? For those who have experienced such encounters, it's not just a story—it's a frightening memory that stays with them forever.
