Pandit and Ghost

Once upon a time, there was a Pandit. His wife was very quarrelsome. She used to fight with him all the time. Pandit became very sad. He felt as if he was crucified. He was scared and frightened.

The whole village was afraid of Pandits wife. People used to say that even the gods start trembling on hearing her name, what are we. Pandits wife used to abuse Panditji daily and worship him a lot. Panditji did not even talk to her.

Finally, tired and exhausted, Panditji decided to leave his home and village. He left home and came to a deserted and scary forest. He sat under a banyan tree and started resting. He fell into a deep sleep.

A ghost lived on that banyan tree. He used to scare the people passing by and sometimes he used to joke with them and make fun of them. Seeing the Pandit sleeping there, a mischief came in his mind. He slowly came down from the banyan tree and hit the Pandit lightly on the head.

The Pandit got up in panic. He was trembling with fear. Suddenly, his wifes name Trishula came out of his mouth in fear.

On hearing the name Trishula, the ghost started trembling with fear. He came in front and fell at the feet of the Pandit. And started saying, Panditji, save me from Trishula. I will be your slave. I will do whatever you say. The Pandit asked the ghost, hey brother! Why are you so afraid of Trishula

The ghost said Panditji, dont ask. Earlier I used to live in a settlement of Pandits. A daughter of Pandits, whose name was Trishula, also lived in the same village. The whole village trembled in fear of her. She was of a very quarrelsome nature.

Once I met her on the bank of a pond. I tried to hold her hand. She was washing clothes on the bank of the pond. She started beating me with a clothes washer stick. She beat me half to death. I ran away from there and came to another village. She also got married. But what is this, she also got married and came to the same village.

Once again I went to her house by mistake. She recognized me. She brought a pestle from inside and started beating me with it. I escaped from there with great difficulty. Now I live in this deserted forest. She should not come here also. Please save me from her.

The Pandit was satisfied after hearing the ghosts words. The Pandit thought, people are afraid of ghosts. But here even the ghosts are afraid of my wife. How brave my wife is. The Pandit thought to himself.

The ghost told the Pandit that there is a treasure under this tree. You take this treasure, but do not tell my address to Trishula.

The Pandit took out the money, tied it in a bundle and put it on his head and returned home. Seeing this, Panditain became very happy. They both started living happily. Now Panditain also stopped scolding Pandita and quarreling with him.
