Hundreds of years ago, mankind was more superstitious and believed the supernatural to be as real as the air we all breathe. So when rumours of Witches began to spread throughout Salem, the townsfolk hunted down and murdered innocent women who were mistakenly outed as monsters. Of course there are many other true horror stories throughout history, where mankind was misguided by occult belief. Most gruesome of all, were the Corn Sacrifices.
This was in 1684, within the British village of Westerwood. The crops here were dying and nobody knew why. Even though it rained often and the sun shines regularly. It was likely the soil which was somehow tainted, but the people of Westerwood believed in a demon. The demon known as Chahud, an evil spirit made up by a desperate mother who wanted to scare her children into behaving, but when her kids began crying about Chahud in public, the villagers believed this entity was real. That it was Chahud who denied them their crops. Nobody knew who decided to sacrifice the children of Westerwood. If it was the local priest or some other religious fanatic. Maybe it was a cruel joke, that got out of hand? Whoever this mystery psycho was, we'll never truly know. So eventually the same kids who cried Chahud, were brought to an altar in the centre of Westerwood. Here, they were forced onto a sacrifice stone, kicking and screaming. Every month it was put up to a vote, mothers and fathers had to decide which child they would say goodbye to. It would have been horrible, a terrible, gruesome tragedy to behold. Just imagine your own parents sending you to a fate so cruel as this? It is unthinkable, but sadly, devastatingly true. Of course the corn never grew, no matter how much innocent blood was spilt.
Three hundred years passed and Westerwood became a town by 1984. It seemed the horrors of the 1680s were at an end, for nothing so horrifying had happened since. Then a young teenage boy went missing and his mother called the police, the search went on for months. His name was Randy Parker and he was last seen playing in the local forests, nobody knew what happened to him after then, until it was too late. It was a horrifying site, as Police officers ventured upon the ancient remains of the former village. By the 1980s, all the huts were nothing but broken twigs and rubble, the church was a burnt wreck, full of graffiti. It was an eerie place, like something out of a horror movie. In the centre of this ghost town, stood an ancient stone with the dead body of Randy laid on top of it. Bloodied beyond words. A sight so ghastly and cruel, I'd rather not go into the details of this poor child's death. Just know, it was barbaric and evil. Someone had repeated Westerwood's dark history, for reasons unknown. You don't want to hear about his mother's reaction to this news, how she broke down and cried hysterically for hours and hours, how she was never the same after knowing that her poor son, bled out while his mysterious killer (presumably) watched him die. So who on earth could have committed such a hideous crime? Well Detectives worked long and hard in search for this mysterious psycho. They looked into the town's local historians and history teachers at the local school. They discovered that recently one of them was convicted of inappropriate behaviour, involving some of the teenage girls at the secondary school. It was Randy himself who spotted Mr Andrews acting rather strangely, he reported this a month before the teacher was fired for being a creep. So the theory that Mr Andrews was out for revenge, became popular among the police. So they asked around and the creep had no alibis on the day Randy went missing, the building evidence proved him a worthy suspect to be interrogated. Mr Andrews was a skinny little man, with a grey mustache and glasses that only made the guy seem all the more sinister. He was a hard nut to crack, but after many, many hours, the bad cop good cop routine worked wonders. He caved in and admitted it was him behind the murder. CCTV footage even spotted Mr Andrews wandering off into the woods, like he knew Randy was going there alone. On top of that, the teacher's finger prints were all over the sacrifice stone that Randy was found upon. Mr Andrews is still in prison to this day, he was charged with intentional manslaughter. Sometimes history can be a good thing, it tells us the horrors of our past, so that such dark fates can never repeat. Unfortunately there are some sick people out there, who like to remind us of our darkest days. The town of Westerwood is considered a cursed place by many, there are ghost stories about the area too. The townsfolk here don't like to mention their horrid history, or the Chahud Killer of 1984. Unfortunately the past is haunting and it can never be shaken, no matter how hard you try to bury it.
