Maggie's Window
It's a crazy thing when people die, the moment they pass and you can feel their presence leave the room.
I was always taught when someone passes you are supposed to open the window so their spirit could leave.
I never knew if it was a religious thing or just an old superstition. The day Maggie died I didn't make it to the hospital in time.
When I got the phone call she had already passed and it had been at least 30 minutes until I was able to make it to her room.
I expected to walk in, sad, to just view her lifeless body. However, when I walked in I could still feel her with me in the room.
It made me think about the old superstition. So to ease my mind I went to Maggie's window, to open it for my friend.
Then I realized, the new hospital they built, none of the windows opened.

"Y" Road
The rain plastered against the cold glass, it was pouring down so hard we could barely see the road in front of us. It was so late at night and I'm sure we took too many wrong turns on the dirt road. It felt like an eternity driving, we were only a couple of miles from home but it felt like we had been in the car for hours.
"There! That's our turn!" Jack yelled at me as I strained to see the road sign through the windshield.
I was able to make out "Y" road as we passed it. Shit, that was our turn. "Don't worry we can take the next road" I insured Jack.
We crept down the road and to our right, through the rain, saw what looked like tail lights out in the field. "Did you see that?" asked Jake with a worry in his voice.
It was storming so bad I didn't want to stop and get the car stuck in the mud. Coming up to the next road I turned and through the corner of my eye, I noticed the sign that said "Y" Road.
I must have read it wrong. We kept going, there was so much rain. "What the hell?" Jake pointed out the window in front of us. Out in the field, we saw tail lights.
I continued to drive. When the next turn came I looked at the sign, "Y" Road.

The Light
There it was again, a light, in the window of the house across the street. I keep telling mom about it. She says no one has lived in that house for years and that the electricity is not even turned on.
But there it is, I see it plain as day, up on the second floor the middle window. It looks like the whole room is lit up. Every night it's on, how can she not see it?
Well, I'm tired of her not believing me. I'll show her, tonight I'm going to find out where that light is coming from.
Just after midnight when I'm sure Mom is asleep I sneak out and cross the street to that old house.
I have my camera so I can take a picture then mom will have to believe me. That stupid door wasn't even that hard to open.
I'm not even scared but every step I take makes a creepy squeaking sound. I make it upstairs, there are no other lights on but I can see some under the crack of the door.
I open it and take a step. There's a loud creak and then a crash. I don't know what happened but I can't see any lights anymore.
