Near Death Experience…How it feels?
NDE and Birds Eye View
A Near-Death Experience (NDE) is a profound experience that some people report having when they come close to death or have been declared clinically dead but then revived. NDEs are typically reported by individuals who have experienced a life-threatening event such as a heart attack, drowning, or a severe accident.
Near-death experiences (NDEs) can be fascinating and often leave a lasting impression on those who experience them. One of the most commonly reported elements of NDEs is the feeling of leaving the body and floating above it, looking down on it from a bird's-eye view.
Common features of NDEs include feelings of peace, joy, and love, a sense of detachment from the physical body, and sometimes encounters with spiritual or supernatural beings. Many people report seeing a bright light, traveling through a tunnel, and encountering deceased loved ones.
During an NDE, some people report a life review where they see significant moments from their past and experience them from different perspectives. Others report being given insights into the nature of reality and the universe, and some describe a feeling of interconnectedness with all things.
NDEs have been studied by researchers and have been the subject of Controversy. Skeptics argue that NDEs are simply the result of physiological and psychological factors such as oxygen deprivation, brain chemistry, and the mind's response to trauma. However, others believe that NDEs offer evidence of an afterlife and the existence of a spiritual dimension beyond our physical world.
While NDEs remain a topic of scientific inquiry, they can be powerful and transformative experiences for those who report them, leading to changes in beliefs and values and a greater appreciation of life.
One of the most fascinating NDEs reported was by a neurosurgeon named Dr. Eben Alexander, who had a severe case of bacterial meningitis and fell into a coma. During his coma, he experienced an NDE that he described as "ultra-real."
Dr. Alexander reported seeing a vivid and beautiful landscape, encountering a "divine being" that he believed to be God, and feeling an overwhelming sense of love and interconnectedness with all things. His experience led him to re-evaluate his prior beliefs about consciousness and the afterlife and to write a book about his experience called "Proof of Heaven."
Another famous NDE story is that of Pam Reynolds, who underwent brain surgery to remove a large aneurysm. During the surgery, her heart was stopped, and her body was cooled to a point where all brain activity ceased. Despite this, Pam reported a vivid NDE where she felt herself leaving her body and moving through a tunnel towards a bright light. She described seeing deceased loved ones and a being of light that she believed to be God. Pam's NDE was documented and studied by Dr. Michael Sabom, a cardiologist, and NDE researcher.
Another well-known NDE story is that of Anita Moorjani, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and went into a coma. During her coma, she experienced an NDE where she felt herself leaving her body and entering a realm of unconditional love and interconnectedness. She also reported feeling a profound sense of understanding and healing that allowed her to recover from her illness. Anita's experience has been widely shared and discussed, and she has written a book about her experience called "Dying to Be Me."
While NDEs can be fascinating and offer glimpses into a possible afterlife, they remain a topic of debate and skepticism in the scientific community. Some argue that they are simply hallucinations or the brain's response to trauma, while others believe they offer evidence of consciousness existing beyond the physical body.
