My Review of 'Us'
The second Jordan Peele movie is out with much anticipation. How did it turn out?

Like everyone out there that's seen the movie Get Out, I highly anticipated Jordan Peele's second horror movie outing. To be honest, I didn't really expect another one to be created so soon. I thought maybe he'd want to dabble with other movie genres or do something different.
The trailer came out and I was interested, but only because of the names that were involved in this one. The trailer itself didn't seem to be that interesting to me. I could say the same thing for the original trailer for Get Out though. I get it, they don't want to spoil too much of the movie. It's tough to advertise a horror movie without telling too much about it. I guess that's why horror movies usually have a twist at the end to throw the audience off.
Us is pretty different from Get Out. There was social commentary behind the movie Get Out that people didn't anticipate when they first went to watch it. This movie I guess has somewhat of a social commentary about playing god and neglect, but it's not as blatant as Jordan Peele's first movie. It's a creative world of its own. Here, we dive into the imagination of Jordan Peele.
It's about a woman named Adelaide, played by Lupita Nyong'o, who in the past as a young girl wandered off by herself during her summer vacation. She wandered to a horror house and experienced something that isn't explained until later in the movie. That experience changed her life forever. Now she has a husband and two kids. Her husband takes the family on vacation, but didn't realize the location of the vacation is the same place where that horrible horror house once was. Flashbacks and crazy events start to happen.
There are good scares in this movie. Not a ton of jump scares, but more a ton of creepy "what's around that corner?" scares. The movie does a good job making you think that something crazy is about to happen. This isn't the scariest movie I've ever witnessed, but it had good elements for scares and I'm sure it'll do the job if you're looking for a new horror movie.
I have to say, watching it in the theaters is the way to go with this movie. Whenever I go to horror movies, it's usually predominantly a female audience. It's really funny because a lot of people that go experience horror movies like it's a carnival ride. This movie has those elements. It's funny in certain parts and scary in others. You have both extremes in this movie, making for an excellent rollercoaster ride of emotions.
There are a lot of holes in the story like why would Adelaide not be warned where they're going for their vacation and not have any say in going there. I realize I was there for a good time, so I had to shut off those questions to enjoy my time. There are a few things creatively addressed, but there were some gaps that I started questioning after viewing it. I guess those questions will probably lead to another viewing.
I thought the whole cast did a great job. They're all likable and relatable characters. Although I did find Winston Duke's accent to be a little weird. It was so off that I was starting to question where he's actually from. I thought it was really weird because I know he's American, but it sounded like someone from another country trying to imitate an American accent.
Overall, I liked the movie. It was fun from the beginning to the end. I particularly liked it in the theater because you can see other audience members react to the movie. There were a few ladies around me that were screaming and yelling during the scares. That was probably the price of admission alone. I would give this movie a 7.5 out of 10. Get to the movie theaters to watch it now before attendance starts to dwindle. This movie is best watched with a crowd.
