Let's Take a Road Trip Through the World's Most Haunted Roads
Sightings of ghostly apparitions, a werewolf, and a phantom vehicle
Do you enjoy taking road trips and discovering new sights? Traveling on and exploring an unfamiliar road can be exciting! Of course, its not so exciting when your GPS quits working and you find yourself lost.
It’s also not so fun when you find yourself on a dark and desolate back road claimed by locals to be extremely haunted.
Have you ever encountered something on a road you just couldn’t explain? Maybe it was your imagination or just the unfamiliarity of the road. Or maybe it was something more?
Here are some of the roads around the world claimed to be notoriously haunted:
Clinton Road — New Jersey, U.S.
Imagine traveling on a dark and desolate road when all of a sudden, in the rear view mirror, you notice blinding white headlights and a car that seemingly appears out of nowhere tailgating a little too close to you. Now imagine you glance back at the car and the obnoxious driver behind you who had the audacity to follow you that close only to find there is no such car behind you.
This is precisely what many drivers have reported seeing traveling on Clinton Road in New Jersey.
If phantom headlights tailgating uncomfortably close to you weren’t enough to give you chills, the spookiness of Clinton Road doesn’t end there.
There is a local urban legend of a spirit of a little boy that haunts a bridge on Clinton Road. Legend has it that if you toss a coin into the waters below the bridge, the spirit of the little boy who drowned in these very waters will toss the coin back up to you.
Clinton Road is claimed to be one of the most haunted roads in the United States.
The M6 Motorway — England
Considered Britain’s busiest and longest road, M6 Motorway is a vast road way spanning six lanes and running 230 plus miles. It is also said to be haunted by phantom hitchhikers. People who travel this vast road claim to experience a phantom hitchhiker, phantom cars, and other eerie and unexplained phenomena.
Sightings of Roman soldiers marching down this road have also been reported. Parts of the road have existed for almost 2,000 years after all, so seeing ghostly Roman soldiers isn’t completely unlikely.
I believe many cultures around the world have some for tale about a phantom hitchhiker waiting for a ride from an unexpecting driver.
With a road that stretches for that many miles, there’s always a chance you might run into one of these phantom hitchhikers.
Bray Road — Wisconsin, U.S.
This is probably one of the most well known urban legends based in the United States.
The previous roads mentioned so far claimed ghostly sightings including phantom hitchhikers and phantom cars.
However, Bray Road has an even more chilling legend and locals call it “The Beast of Bray Road”.
Some who travel this road claimed to have seen a werewolf like creature along the side of the road. Some have seen it hunching over road kill while others have seen it walking on its hind legs. Sightings of this wolf like creature go back as far as 1936.
I’m very sure not very many who saw this creature even dared to stop let alone slow down!
Tuen Mun Road — Hong Kong, China
Imagine driving down a congested highway with vehicles passing by you in every direction. All of a sudden, a ghostly figure appears in the middle of the road way in front of you. You swerve to miss it only to crash into another vehicle.
This is what many drivers claim to have happened on Tuen Mun Road in Hong Kong.
Ghostly apparitions of the unfortunate that have been killed on this busy roadway have appeared out of nowhere to unexpecting drivers.
Interestingly, and even more chillingly, the ghosts seen are those who have died in previous crashes caused by the very same reason — a ghostly apparition has appeared out of nowhere in front of somebody.
Tuen Mun road is considered to be a highly dangerous road. Some say, the high amount of crashes are a result of a poorly designed road system while others swear they know what they saw.
E8 Expressway — Malaysia
Much like the other roads mentioned so far, people claimed to have seen ghostly apparitions and phantom cars as they travel down the E8 Espressway in Malaysia.
However, one unique thing about this haunted road that sets it off from the others is the report of a ghostly yellow Volkswagen that tries to run unexpecting drivers off the road. People claim to have seen it appear out of nowhere.
Interestingly, it’s not a completely sinister presence. Amusingly, but maybe just as unsettling, if not more, the phantom Volkswagen will suddenly appear next to any car it favors. When those happen to glance at the yellow Volkswagen that pulled up beside them, matching their speed, there’s no one in the driver’s seat.
The next time you take a road trip, would you consider passing through these roads? What’s the worst that could possibly happen?
