Escapism Through Horror
People watch horror films for many different reasons. Maybe they like the idea of being scared s***less, maybe their interest lies in the special effects and the creation of gore, or maybe they watch horror because they believe in the paranormal/supernatural. Whatever the reason, the horror film industry is huge and new titles are being released every month.

The Screams of Amy
On one unforgettable Saturday night, something I only thought happened in horror movies actually happened to me. On Saturday, October 3rd, at approximately 9:30pm, I received this chilling call from an unknown number. I picked up the phone to ask who was calling. No one replied. Then as soon as I waited four more seconds before hanging up, I heard a very disturbing scream. There were multiple screams in the background while whomever was on the phone was making heavy breathing noises. Due to how frighted I was I ended the call as fast as I could. My hair on my back was standing up and cold sweat was dripping from my armpits. Five minutes later the same number called again. I was going to ignore the call, but my curiosity got the best of me. I picked up the phone once again, but this time before I could say a word at all. I heard those familiar yet disturbing screams again. Then suddenly a creepy voice in the background said, “I’m here to get you.” And hung up on me. My bulb in my lamp blew out right at that moment. It scarred me almost to death. I got up and made my way downstairs to the basement to get a fresh bulb. I was so afraid of the dark I used my phone as a flashlight. Right when I made my way to the basement door, I heard a huge bang, it sounded as if the noise came from above on the second floor near the kitchen. I continued my way to search for a fresh bulb and luckily I had one left. I grabbed it and ran upstairs eager to get to my room where I felt more safe. I hurried to replace my old bulb with the new one and locked the door to my room. My parents would be home soon so I was eagerly waiting for them. I turned the TV on to keep my mind off the phone call.

Through the Flames
The sun, beaming down. Bushels of hay being thrown over the shoulder, the cows grazing on the field. He was too busy working to notice the sly creature stalking up behind him, ready to pounce at any moment. Held breath, one leg lifts slowly. Pause. Making sure that they haven’t been heard. Slowly a second step. And a third. Inching closer and closer. Waiting for the ideal moment. Like slow motion, at the full extent of one of the bushels being thrown over the shoulder; the pounce! “Got you!”

The Black Rope Fiend
It was an especially dark evening in that ever so gruesome year of 1693. The wind howled through the darkness traveling to my location; briefly kissing my neck before again traveling onward. I walked at a brisk pace up the marble stair case of Morrison Mansion. The light of the open room stretched down the old moldy hallway. It walls almost devoid of colors from the years abuse. Taking one last breath of sinless air I wandered into the dim light. This must be heaven I thought to myself with a smug smile. The wind crawled through holes in the windows and walls, racing one another down the empty hall. When I reached the origin of the light I pushed open the aged door. It creaked in pain revealing a woman whose body was that of a peach. Bright and full of life. She stood nude, tied to the wall. I looked at her with pity. Did she deserve to die? No. She deserved to be cherished, and I would make sure of that. Her face was beautiful and fair, yet her eyes had a hungry look. I closed mine, feeling as though my mind was invaded by some sinister force. Visions of color and sounds blurred my thoughts. I scratched my head violently. The noise stopped and I was thrown into reality again. I walked closer, but was interrupted by the sound of another approaching from behind. Could this be him? A master of his trade. Death himself? I ducked to the right, hiding behind a large dresser. A man strolled in. His pace was quick and his body swayed as if listening to a daunting tune. He seemed rather cheerful. He was dressed in a large over oat and tight trousers. Both looked to be old and ragged. When he approached the woman. Her eyes opened wide. I could feel her pulse from my hiding place.

Reclamation
Low, sultry tones echoed from the piano as Morgana's fingers slid across the ebony keys. Moonlight faded into the gallery from the wide windows, bathing her in a sliver of light. Slowly the tune picked up speed, teasing out her fingers, daring her to keep up.

Something Wicked
“Michael. You know you’re not supposed to be doing things like this.” I held the paper in my hand pointing to the top. He had written, “I am the sign of the beast” where his name should have been. And, he wrote 666 where all of the answers should have gone. It was a little strange, but most kids did something inappropriate with an assignment. I don’t know how many phallic symbols I’m seen on little boy’s papers through the years.

The Murderer
The sun rose in the sky, its bright rays shinning over the “Black” house. The lone house stood away from other homes in a field. The house was enormous with a huge tower that could be seen for miles. Every day Mr. Black would climb up the total two-hundred stairs to the tip of his tower. From here he would watch over the city. The time was 12 PM. Mr. Black sat in his chair waiting and watching. He sat for hours gazing through his telescope, observing the citizens of the town. Occasionally he would stop and write in his notebook.

Déjà Vu
Have you ever had a déjà vu moment in your life? Well, I've had multiple and sometimes these moments give me the shivers! As far as I can remember, I think I was a teenager when I began experiencing these déjà vu events. It all began when I was living with my older sister. She owns a condominium on the second floor of a quiet community. Below her on the first floor lived an elderly couple. My sister met this couple when she first moved in years before my mom and I moved in. Eventually we were introduced and got along well. This couple would tell us stories like if we were their own children. It was such a comfortable feeling that I would get from them and made me look at my future differently. As time passed, my family and I noticed that the ambulance would keep coming back to elderly couple's home. Of course we weren't in any position of interfering with their personal lives. Until we met a lady, a nurse who was hired on behalf of the grandchildren of the couple. The nurse told us that the wife was very ill and on her deathbed. We were all in state of shock, we weren't expecting anything like this to happen. But within the end of that year, the wife passed away. Sadly, the husband continued his life grieving the death of his long-time wife. It was very hard based on some things the nurse would share with my family. This man eventually became terminally ill. He developed prostate cancer at the age of 86. His health began failing since.
