Last call (Part 7)

Saira's story ends on a stormy night.

By Kevin HudsonPublished 8 months ago 2 min read

Nazim Bhai is missing.

His yacht was found floating empty in the same spot where Sayera's skeleton was.

Since that night, the entire ghat, the entire village has fallen silent.

No one has sleep in their eyes.

No one has peace in their hearts.

We know that even though everything seems to be over, Sayera's story is not yet finished.

The Arrival of the Cyclone

That evening, news suddenly came from the weather office—

"A cyclone is approaching the coast. Everyone go to a safe place."

That cyclone didn't seem to be just the wrath of nature,

It felt like the anger of a soul was spreading through the sky, the air, the sea.

Everyone in our group gathered at Fazlu Majhi's house.

He read out the last pages of the diary—the ones no one knew yet.

The Last Words of the Diary

Sayera had written:

"I didn't cheat anyone. I only asked for what was my due. They said I'm a woman, fishing is not my job.

They cut my life jacket. The storm came, I didn't know how to swim.

I sank... but I know, I will return.

Only when the final truth is known, will I find peace."

Everyone was silent after reading these lines.

We know that Sayera's spirit is still wandering around here—waiting for her justice.

Sayera in a Dream

That night, amidst the cyclone, I fell asleep.

I dreamt—a deep sea, and Sayera was standing in it.

She slowly walked towards me.

Her hair was wet, her eyes held a strange, cold peace.

She said,

"You searched for the truth, you brought me back, now I can go."

Then she slowly floated towards the sky...

The golden chain fell from her neck into the water.

A blue light spread all around.

I woke up—gasping for breath.

The clock showed 3 AM.

The storm had stopped.

The Change in the Morning

The next morning, the sea was surprisingly calm.

As if the night's storm had never happened.

We all went out in boats.

At the place where Nazim Bhai's yacht was found, today deep blue water was shimmering.

Someone said,

"Look! There's a shimmering light under that water!"

Riaz Bhai dived again.

He came up and said,

"No body. No skeleton. Everything is clear, as if nothing had ever been there."

We all understood—Sayera had finally found peace.

The Last Sight

While returning at noon, in the distant sea line, we saw a shadow—the figure of a girl.

She was standing on the water, her hair blowing in the wind, and a faint smile on her face.

We all stopped.

That shadow slowly faded away.

For the first time, there was no fear—it felt like we were saying goodbye to her.

Memory and Burial

We all together placed a small stone plaque on the shore.

It read:

"Sayera—daughter of the ocean, who fought for justice.

Perhaps the soul does not die, but it finds peace."

Her name is now uttered with respect by the girls of the village.

She is no longer just a story—she is a symbol.

A symbol of an oppressed woman who stood against injustice,

Who won her battle for justice even in death.

Final Words

We still fish, we still go to the sea.

But every time before casting our nets, we remember Sayera once.

Her story teaches us—

The sea takes many things, but some truths it holds forever.

The crying has stopped. Now there is only silent respect.
