It Will Come Back
It’s Developed A Taste
**
**
When the master comes calling
For another meal
Better batten the walls
And secure the sills
For flesh will give way
To gnashing of claw and teeth
The beast howls and bays
And insanity is unleashed
A ravenous hunger
Gnawing down to the bone
A call louder than thunder
Do not be found alone
His reach, limitless
State or stature unheeded
Begging is frivolous
As the victim is bleed-ed
Every part is devoured
Taking even the soul
The will to destroy, empowered
Denying any human control
And he smiles with each strike
Revealing his true nature
A billed hook, like a shrike
Unlike any other creature
No feature familiar
No recall or care
He changes his figure
Completely covered in hair
And your taste is appealing
Sits at the back of his throat
Your skin he enjoys peeling
Letting your body bloat
Coming back later to feast
Savoring every morsel
Pieces stuck in his teeth
Eyes aglow, paranormal
And no one will stop him
Hypnotized by his spirit
His disguise vaguely thin
But no one will hear it
Consumed by his pull
And the need to be near him
A sheep disguised in its wool
So, beware of the werewolf
Good luck exposing his evil
He’s what nightmares are made of
Feeding on our fears, like a weevil

Awesome!!! This is a fantastic entry, I admire your command of the language here— you paint a terrifying picture, be show the viciousness of predatory hunger! Excellent entry! Yours is the first one I’ve read, others will have a tough act to follow! The lines “let your body bloat” and “coming back later to feast” were absolutely revolting in the very best way! This is only my first read— so I’ll do one more offering more specific feedback soon :)
This is a wonderfully frightful entry, Kelli, every blood-curdling word deliciously lingering on the tongue. Good luck on the challenge!
Loved this. Evocative and grisly!
What a frightening and yes even a somewhat gory poem. We must always be on the lookout for demons like these. Way to go.
Gurl you ginger snapped on this one in a good way! Gnarly writing Kelli! Get it gurl! 💪🏾🎉
