Ganga river

By Sangeetha SPublished 3 years ago 4 min read

Deep in the heart of the Indian jungle lies a small village nestled along the banks of the mighty Ganga river. The villagers of this town have always been wary of the river, for they believe it to be cursed by the spirits of the dead.

The story goes that years ago, a group of travelers had been crossing the river when their boat overturned, and they drowned. The villagers had tried their best to save them, but it was too late. Since then, strange things have been happening along the riverbanks.

One evening, a young woman named Amrita was returning home after a long day of work. She had been working in the fields all day and was exhausted. As she walked along the riverbank, she noticed something strange in the water. It was as if the river had suddenly turned red. She watched in horror as the water began to churn and bubble, and a figure began to rise from the depths.

At first, she thought it was just her tired mind playing tricks on her, but as the figure rose higher, she could see that it was a woman. The woman was dressed in white and had long, black hair that flowed around her like a river. Her skin was as white as bone, and her eyes glowed like embers.

Amrita stood frozen in fear as the woman slowly made her way towards her. She tried to run, but her feet were rooted to the spot. The woman beckoned to her with a bony hand, and Amrita could feel a cold chill run down her spine.

Suddenly, the woman spoke. Her voice was hollow and raspy, and it sounded like it was coming from deep within the river itself. "Come with me," she said. "I have been waiting for you."

Amrita tried to resist, but she found herself being drawn towards the woman. She felt as if she was being pulled towards the river, and she knew that if she didn't act fast, she would be dragged under.

With all the strength she could muster, Amrita broke free from the woman's grasp and ran as fast as she could towards her village. She could hear the woman's screams echoing behind her, but she didn't stop until she reached the safety of her home.

When Amrita told the villagers what had happened, they all nodded in agreement. They too had seen the woman in white, and they knew that she was a vengeful spirit that haunted the riverbanks.

From that day on, Amrita never ventured near the river again, and the villagers began to avoid it altogether. They knew that the Ganga was cursed by the spirits of the dead, and that if they weren't careful, they too would fall victim to the woman in white.

Despite their fear of the river, the villagers couldn't completely avoid it. They relied on the Ganga for their livelihoods, and they knew they had to face their fears if they were to survive. But the woman in white continued to haunt them, and they could feel her presence every time they stepped into the water.

One night, as the villagers sat around a bonfire, they began to share their own encounters with the woman in white. Some had seen her rising from the river, while others had heard her mournful cries in the dead of night. But one man, an old fisherman named Rajiv, had a story that sent shivers down their spines.

Rajiv had been out fishing one night when he felt something tug on his line. He pulled it in, expecting to find a fish, but instead, he found a small, white bone. He threw it back into the water, but as he did so, he felt a cold breath on the back of his neck. When he turned around, he saw the woman in white standing behind him, her eyes blazing with fury.

Rajiv tried to flee, but the woman was too quick. She grabbed him by the ankles and dragged him into the water. He felt the icy coldness of the river surround him as he struggled to break free. But it was no use. The woman held him tightly, and soon he was swept away by the currents.

The villagers were horrified by Rajiv's tale, but they knew that they couldn't let the woman in white continue to terrorize them. They decided to perform a ritual to exorcise the spirit from the river.

They gathered together at the riverbank and lit candles to ward off the darkness. They chanted ancient hymns and offered flowers and fruits to the gods. As they did so, they felt a shift in the air. The water began to churn, and the woman in white rose from the depths once more.

But this time, the villagers were prepared. They threw salt at her, and she recoiled in pain. They recited mantras to banish her, and she screamed in fury. But they persisted, and eventually, the woman in white vanished into the darkness.

The villagers breathed a sigh of relief as they watched the river return to its calm state. They knew that the curse had been lifted, and that they could finally live without fear of the woman in white.

But as they walked back to their homes, they couldn't shake off the feeling that something was still lurking in the shadows. They knew that the Ganga was a powerful force, and that the spirits that haunted it were not easily vanquished. They vowed to always be vigilant, for they knew that the woman in white could return at any moment, seeking revenge for what they had done.
