There was a village with a terrifying pond beside it, surrounded by gardens and agricultural fields. The pond was so frightening that even during the daytime, no one dared to go near it. By the pond, there was a huge tamarind tree, and people used to say that an old man and an old woman lived in that pond. Occasionally, people claimed to see the old man and woman sitting on top of the tamarind tree.

Still, the villagers had to go there to cultivate their crops. However, the problem began when they noticed their crops were continuously being stolen. To solve this, the villagers decided to hire guards to protect their fields. But since the place was so scary, no one was willing to take the job. Finally, they brought a husband and wife along with their small child from a nearby village to guard the crops. The villagers built a small house for them by the pond.

Little did the family know how dangerous the pond was. One afternoon, their child went down to the pond to take a bath but was never seen again. The parents searched everywhere around the pond all day, but the child was nowhere to be found.

That night, the child's mother had a strange dream. In the dream, the old man and woman appeared and said, "If you want your child back, go to the west bank of the pond. You will find a chain there. At the end of the chain, your child will be waiting." The next morning, the parents went to the west bank of the pond and indeed found a chain. They began pulling the chain, but it seemed endless. They kept pulling from morning until evening, yet the chain never ended.

At last, the villagers revealed the truth — that the pond was haunted and something supernatural lived there. Realizing this, the family let go of the chain, and in the blink of an eye, the entire chain disappeared back into the water.

After this terrifying incident, the family left the village. The villagers also stopped going to their fields out of fear.

Many days later, the villagers had another horrifying dream. In the dream, the old man and woman warned the villagers, "If you dare to cultivate these lands again, we will drag all your crops into the pond. Your children will never return home." This dream spread fear throughout the village.

After that, an eerie atmosphere settled over the village. Every night, strange sounds came from the pond — the splashing of water, distant groaning, and sometimes even a child's crying. Some villagers began to whisper that the old man and woman were no longer confined to the tamarind tree but had started haunting other trees as well. A few people claimed to have seen shadowy figures wandering the village streets late at night.

The village chief decided enough was enough. He gathered the villagers and said, "We must do something, or this fear will consume our village." An elderly villager suggested, "We should bring a tantric who can break this curse."

The next day, they brought a well-known tantric from a neighboring village. That night, the tantric performed a ritual by the pond. As he chanted his mantras, the water in the pond began to ripple violently, as if something beneath was pulling at it.

The tantric said, "This pond doesn't just hold the old man and woman. Many other trapped souls dwell here. They want to be freed, but no one ever helped them. This pond was cursed long ago, binding these souls, including the old couple."

He continued, "You must purify this pond. If not, these spirits will keep tormenting your village." He instructed the villagers to sprinkle flowers, incense, and holy water into the pond.

Suddenly, the pond's water started boiling furiously. It seemed as though an invisible force was trying to disrupt the ritual. Out of nowhere, the old man and woman appeared at the top of the tamarind tree, their voices trembling with anger: "Why have you come here? If you don't set us free, no one in this village will survive."

Terrified, the villagers stepped back, but the tantric urged them to stay firm. "We must release these souls, or they will destroy this village," he said. He closed his eyes and began chanting again.

As the night grew darker, the old couple's cries grew louder. The water in the pond turned murky and restless. Finally, the tantric threw a ball of red thread into the pond while reciting his last mantra. Instantly, the pond's water became calm, and the old man and woman disappeared like smoke into the night.

The tantric said, "They are free now. But be warned — always keep this pond purified. If not, evil forces will return."

From that day on, the villagers built a small temple near the pond and performed regular prayers. Slowly, the terrifying tales of the pond became part of the village's past.

However, even today, some say they still hear faint whispers near the pond late at night...
