The girl, like a doll, runs ahead of the wind. She looks at the waves of the GHA Ghat River and the distant village on the other side of the river with her big eyes.
She asks so many questions! And she loves to listen to ghost stories. She has only one request from her father, mother, and grandmother: to listen to ghost stories. Both of Pia's parents are teachers by profession. Pia's father loves to tell ghost stories; but Pia's grandmother has a basket of ghost stories.
When the stories start coming out of that basket, Pia listens to them with fascination.
Pia's annual exams are over. So she has gone to her grandfather's house for the winter vacation. Her cousins Lipi, Sumi, and Sumana have also gone.
They are having a great time playing Dariyabandha, Gollachhut, Chiburi, and Panchguti. And in the evening, they go with their grandmother to see one thing. And that is whether or not a fish has landed in the pond by the pond. The pond is a haunt of ghosts.
There is a big mother tree on the western side of the pond. That is the haunt of ghosts. Still, I want to close my eyes and go see their fish with a hurricane.
There are so many ghosts in that mother tree. I don't know. Fish ghosts, pitha ghosts, and so many more ghosts. There are several old trees in the high house where Ranu's aunt lives on the pond.
Ghosts can be seen there even during the day. There are so many ghosts' haunts around Priya R's grandfather's house that the village becomes metaphysical in the evening.
Today, Priya R's grandmother will fry pit ha. Preparations are underway for that. Atta is being kneaded in a dough. Coconuts have been laid from the tree. Grandfather Mia has brought fresh sugarcane and jaggery from the market in Dariapur.
Making pitha is like a big festival. In this village, no one fries fish after evening. There is a lot of trouble here with fish ghosts. Whenever someone goes to fry fish, the fish ghost's wife will take the opportunity to steal the fried fish and bring it back. That's why no one fries fish at night.
Priya Rai Dadi is also very brave. Everyone says that she has contact with ghosts and their wives. They do not harm Priya Rai Dadi. However, Priya Rai Dadi does not mention their names at night. She calls them by pseudonyms. When I ask Dadi about this, she just smiles.

The day Priya Rai Dadi bakes pit ha, she bakes a lot of pit ha. She bakes pit ha for everyone in the neighborhood, her relatives and friends. She bakes eight to ten kilos of rice pitha. So after finishing all the work, she feeds everyone with food and then sits down to bake pitha for a long time at night.
Then, while she bakes pitha, morning comes. Dew starts falling on the rice in the kitchen and Grandma bakes pit ha to her rhythm. Everyone says that Priya Rai Dadi even gives pit ha to ghost wives.
That's why she bakes pit ha for them. Some say that Priya Rai Dadi's mother-in-law treated a ghost wife very badly. That's why the wife cursed her. To break that curse, Grandma has formed a friendship with ghost wives.
Piyar Dadi is baking pitha. Shefali's mother is helping her. Four sisters are watching the baking of pitha next to her.
Extensive research is being done on how much the pitha puffs up. If the pit ha did not rise, the grandmother said, "Sit down and puff up your cheeks." Otherwise, the pit ha would not rise.
Just like that, the four sisters puffed up their cheeks. They asked the grandmother, "What did the old woman do with the women?" Don't tell me. The grandmother said, "Don't tell me that now." They said, "Don't tell me that story." Finally, the grandmother said, "On such a day, the old woman was frying pit ha." Suddenly, she saw a little wife come and say in a loud voice, "Give me pit ha, give me pit ha, give me pit ha." Just like that, the old woman poured the hot oil for frying pit ha into the hands of the wife.
Then the wife splattered with hot oil and started running around crying and cursing. Actually, it was not the wife, it was the mother tree's bha-petni. She came dressed as a wife to ask for pitha. The grandmother said that those who came to her came late at night to get pitha. The grandmother kept the pitha in a new earthen pot for them.
While saying this, the girl suddenly screamed. Sumi started muttering in fear. Sumana fainted.
