A Fortress Haunted by Ghosts of Prisoners
Akershus Fortress has stood for 700 years in Oslo. The fortress once guarded the cities inner harbor. Even though it was never attacked by enemies it still has its share of spilled blood. At one time the castle was used as a prison for some of the most notorious criminals in Norway. These criminals were sentenced to hard, backbreaking work. Withing the prison they were chained or isolated as a means of discipline.
Today these restless spirits haunt the castle and people can hear whispers and scratches in the hallways. Those who guard the castle have felt like they're being watched and there have been sensations of being pushed especially when all alone on duty. The prison was closed down in 1950. You can visit the castle and learn about the history of Oslo. Nidaros Cathedral is one of Norway's most important cathedrals. It is also inhabited by a well-known ghost called The Monk. The Monk of Nidaros Cathedral located in Trondheim first appeared in 1924 and was seen by Bishop Marie Gleditsch, who noticed that the spirit had a bloody gash along its throat. Ever since the appearance of The Monk late at night in the cathedral chanting has been heard and the organ plays. The strangest thing of all is that historians say there was no order of monks connected to the cathedral. Perhaps this apparition met with a bad end and had wandered into the cathedral looking for help not realizing he was already dead and so there it stays still seeking help. It can be most anything that attracts spirits to different places.

Dalen Hotel in Telemark is also associated with the supernatural. Both staff and guests refer to the notorious Room 17 which is occupied by a spirit called The English Lady. Formerly she was known as Miss Greenfield of England. Late in the 19th century, she checked into the Dalen Hotel and was a guest for several months. Hotel Union Øye in Sunnmore is the scene of a tragic love story that occurred at the end of the 19th century. A servant girl named Linda fell in love with one of the officers serving Emperor Wilhelm. However, when the duke was denied a divorce he took his own life. A short time afterwards Linda also took her life to meet up with her lover in the afterlife.
