The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Deanne and her best friend Shea walked up to the abandoned cabin. It had been a long day. Deanne’s car broke down two miles down the road and they desperately needed help. What made matters worse is that both their phones died as soon as the car broke down. It was the strangest thing because Deanne knew for a fact her phone was charged. They were going on their first camping trip and was excited to get the experience. Their boyfriends would always talk about how much fun they had whenever they went, so the girls decided to get in on the fun!
“Hey look there’s a candle burning in the window. Someone has to be home.” Shea said. “Hmm…I don’t know. It looks abandoned and creepy.” Deanne replied.
“Don’t be stupid. How can it be abandoned but there’s a candle burning.” Shea said with an eye roll.
Deanne kept silent but something was telling her it was a bad idea to go in the cabin. Shea knocked on the door but there was no answer. They waited for a beat. Nothing.
“I’m gonna try the back door.” Shea said.
“No! We should just leave and find somewhere else to get help. I don’t have a good feeling about this place.”
“Girl what is your problem? It’s not like someone is going to snatch us up and we disappear.”
Shea started walking and Deanne was right behind her. She convinced herself that she followed Shea because she wanted to keep her safe and had nothing to do with how scared she was. As they approached the back of the cabin Deanne saw a shadowed figure walk pass the back window.
“Ow….your nail is digging in my skin!” Shea whispered yelled.
“I’m sorry but I saw something moving in the cabin.” Deanne said with fear dripping from her voice.
“Oh! See someone is home. Let’s go inside.”
Before Deanne could say no, Shea walked up the stairs and opened the back door. All of a sudden an arm came out and grabbed Shea and pulled her in the cabin. The arm had nails that looked like tree branch sticks. As soo as Shea was inside the door slammed shut. Shea’s scream sounded like nails grinding on a chalkboard. Deanne had never heard Shea scream like this before.
“Shea!” Deanne ran up the stairs and grabbed the door handle but it wouldn’t budge. It didn’t open as easily for her as it did for Shea. She pounded on the door yelling for Shea but she heard nothing except for Shea’s screams. Deanne’s heart was pounding so loud in her chest she couldn’t hear herself think. She ran to the window to try to open it but the window was gone!
“What in the hell?! I swore there was a window here!” Deanne mumbled to herself. She ran back to the front and the window where the candle was burning was gone and so was the front door!
“This cannot be happening!” She pounded everywhere on the cabin! “Open this cabin up now. Give me my best friend back!” No one replied to Deanne and she noticed how quiet the inside of the cabin got. “Shea! Shea! Can you hear me? Shea!!” Tears started running down Deanne’s face. She didn’t know what to do. Her best friend was taken away and she didn’t know how to get her back.
The back door! That didn’t disappear when everything else did. That must be how to get in the cabin. She reasoned with herself. With that in mind, Deanne ran the two mile back to the car and grabbed the gun that was in the glove compartment. She was not leaving this place until she got her friend back. She ran as fast as she could back to the cabin and stopped dead in her tracks. The candle was burning in the window again and Shea stood at the front door. But it wasn’t Shea. Her eyes were all black and her nails looked like sticks from tree branches. Shea’s neck started to move slowly until it did a 360 degree and stopped right where Deanne was standing. Deanne never felt so afraid as she did that moment. All of a sudden Shea bent down on all fours and charged at Deanne. The growl that came from Shea was not human. Deanne knew her best friend was gone. She pulled the trigger and shot her friend in the head. Shea fell back from the sudden impact. Immediately the candle was blown out and the front door creepily and slowly opened. Deanne aimed her gun as the shadowed figure she saw earlier walk out. The figure was tall and skinny. All black. Stick like arm and fingers and eyes all white. The figure started to growl just like the sound Shea made. The more the figure growled the more the cabin came to life and branch like tentacles came from the cabin slowly making its way to Deanne. Deanne started running but the more she ran the faster the branches came after her. She was not fast enough. The branch grabbed her by the foot. She fell hard on the ground. The branch dragged her back to the cabin. Deanne screamed and was shooting at the branches but nothing. She ran out of bullets and the grip of the branches was so strong that Deanne felt like her left ankle was going to break. She screamed and shouted for help, but nothing. As she got closer to the cabin Shea’s body was gone. All that remained was the figure. The branches continued to drag Deanne up the front stairs. She grabbed the top stair to try and anchor herself, but the pull of the branch was too strong. The branch yanked with such force one time and Deanne was in the cabin and everything went black.
“Hey!! Deanne! Deanne wake up! You were screaming in your dream.” Shea said.
Deanne woke up and saw her best friend. She jumped up from the bed and hugged her tight. “Okay!” Shea said laughing. “I’m excited about the camping trip too.”
“Oh yeah before I forget, the boys said there is a cabin with a candle burning in the window on our way. We should check out.”
The End.
