"Dr. Kreel's Descent"
As a brilliant scientist with an unquenchable curiosity, Dr. Victor Kreel was well-known. Although they feared his passion, his coworkers revered him. In the lab's corridors, there were murmurs of experiments that made it difficult to distinguish between genius and insanity. But his intelligence was undeniable. That is, until it happened.
Deep inside the lab's subterranean facilities, Dr. Kreel and his crew were conducting an experiment on a rainy evening in late fall when it all started. They had been researching a peculiar cosmic anomaly that a satellite had picked up—a communication from deep space that no human had ever received before. Kreel thought it was an alien civilization's way of communicating. He firmly believed that the signal was a beacon that would guide them to something far more significant than anything that had ever been found by humans.
Decoding the signal and building a gadget to track its source took Kreel and his team weeks of nonstop effort. Their expectations were much exceeded by what they discovered. The signal had been coming from a tiny, metallic object, an egg, that had been buried beneath the Earth's surface. Something inside moved when Kreel's team found the device, which pulsed with a sinister, dark force.
The first person to touch it was Dr. Kreel. His fingertips tingled with an energy he could not understand, and he could feel its chilly surface. He gave his crew instructions to delicately crack open the egg, and when they did, they discovered what was inside: a creature with a twisted, alien body but the distinct contour of a face that was both human and hideous. The skin had odd markings that gave off a slight glow in the dark, and it was a sickening green color. But what most fascinated Kreel were its eyes. They appeared to be black holes of emptiness that sucked away all hope and light.
"The ultimate discovery," Kreel murmured to himself.
At first, the creature lay in a state of hibernation and did not move. Kreel, however, sensed its strength. Beneath the surface, he sensed its intellect, twisted and cunning. The risks did not matter to him. He was an ambitious individual who was prepared to push the limits of knowledge. He did not know what he was going to let loose.
Days went by. As though waking from a deep, lengthy sleep, the monster moved and slowly opened its eyelids. Like the scrape of metal against stone, it gave a low, guttural groan. Kreel remained motionless, anticipating the creature's next words.
And it did talk. It had a deep, resonant, chilly voice that was unlike any human. It growled, "I am Az’mar, the harbinger of the doom." "You will pay the price now that you have let me free."
Kreel grinned, supposing it was only a psychological trick, a fiction of its foreign nature. However, as the days passed, the team started to feel the effects of the creature's presence. They grew restless, even aggressive. As the scientists heard the creature's speech within their skulls, their bodies started to twitch and distort, and their minds broke down as they started to get sick one by one.
But Dr. Kreel was still fixated. He thought he could master it and use its might to advance humanity. However, he was mistaken. Az'mar was an uncontrollable entity. It thrived on the panic and fear of the people around it. It was more than simply a monster; it was a force of evil, an ancient predator that sprang from the universe's darkest abyss and fed on agony.
The first fatality followed. Kreel's closest colleague, Dr. Calloway, was discovered in his office with his body twisted in an unusual way. His eyes were wide open and filled with fear, and his skin had gone a sickening gray. Az'mar was the only word written in his own blood on the walls.
The fear started to grow. It was too late for Kreel to stop the beast. Az'mar escaped its bonds, standing taller than the scientist with its long, sinewy limbs extending strangely. The room appeared to twist around the creature's presence, and the air became heavy with an awful pressure.
Kreel retreated when he realized the full extent of his error. His voice trembled as he murmured, "What... what have I done?"
With its black gaze fixed on him, Az'mar cocked its head. It grinned and said, "You have released me," sending shivers down Kreel's spine. "And now I shall eat everything."
The thing lunged in a flash. Kreel was frozen from the inside out when its long fingers entered his chest. His body was paralyzed by the alien's power, causing his scream to be interrupted.
The few survivors frantically fled as the lab collapsed into mayhem. Their final glimpse of Dr. Kreel was of his mangled, dead body suspended from the ceiling, his terrified eyes fixed on the chasm that Az'mar had brought with it.
With its dark eyes now focused on the world above, Az'mar, the ancient alien predator, stood in the center of the lab. It whispered, "This is just the beginning," "Your world will burn soon."
Thus started the reign of horror for the thing that Dr. Kreel had stupidly unleashed—an unfathomable alien entity released by the ambition and avarice of a scientist. Never again would the world be the same.
