Don't worry, I don't harm people, I just traumatize them.

Wish fulfillment.

Rolling on my bed for two hours straight, I felt this urge to do something I had longed for years: watch a horror movie in the basement. Just the thought of it was more than enough to make me grab my headphones and blanket and sneak out in the most silent way possible. Mission accomplished, plus respect. I was finally in the basement.

.... After 30 mins.....

As I settled into the cool, dimly lit basement, the air felt thick with the scent of old furniture and forgotten memories. I wrapped the blanket tightly around me, the flickering light of a single bulb casting long shadows across the walls. My heartbeat quickened as I set up my laptop, the opening credits of the horror movie flickering to life on the screen.
The silence around me was oppressive, broken only by the occasional creak of the house settling. It made everything feel ten times more intense. I plugged in my headphones, the sound of eerie music flooding my ears as the screen showed a dark, abandoned house—just like the one I was sitting in.
As the plot unfolded, the tension in the movie matched the tension I was feeling in my own chest. Every small sound made me jump, every flicker of movement in the shadows making me question whether it was just the film or something more sinister in the basement with me.
I paused the movie for a second, thinking I heard a soft thumping sound from upstairs. However, it was just my brain... It was nothing and so I resumed watching. As the movie deepened, I found myself feeling a bit unsettled. My soul was about to jump out off me when I heard a loud thump upstairs. My heart was a huge mess. I quickly took out my headphones and paused the movie wondering who was up at 2 am in the morning. But my brain brushed an eerie thought, however, I tried my best to ignore it. As soon as I got up, the loud thumping noises stopped. I went closed to the basement door. I thought to maybe check what was happening up there. I was about to climb the basement stairs but the basement door creaked open and a shadow lingered across the doorway. The air grew colder, a chill settling in my bones, as if the house itself was holding its breath.
"Don't come upstairs " Said a guttural voice. The door was then slammed shut and the flickering light above my head flickered even more. My soul was a frozen. My body lost its senses. Before I could think of anything, there was loud thud and shuffling of objects, my brain signalled me to run upstairs and escape... But those words reverberate in my head.
After intense noises from upstairs, suddenly, the atmosphere became silent. So silent that its scream could be heard clearly in my ears.
Just then the best door flew wide open and there on the top stood a black figure.
I did what my instincts signalled me to do. I spun and ran to the farthest corner of the basement.
(Chortling) "I saw you before you could run!" The voice was exactly similar to mine but it wasn't me!
The shadow took another step down the basement stairs.
"Don't worry, I don't harm people...I just traumatize them" The sound grew into heavy growl. (Chortling)
I closed my eyes and ears shut as tight as I could.
I was panting heavily and when my eyes finally gave me the view of my room, my heartbeat started to relax. I realized that it was just a dream!! "Phew"
Later that day, I rolled up with my usual morning routine. My headphones were missing, I literally scanned the whole house but found it no where.. I guess I left it my horrible dream!!
I was about to head out to college when my mom shouted, " Mohit! Your headphones ! I found them in the basement. (Panting)
Those words hit my guts and I lost my ability to turn around and face my mom
...
Author's space : hi there! Thank you for reading :). Well I have got something to share with you guys. The inspiration behind writing this story goes to my friend, Mohit Or Mohini ji ( as I call him).
Well he did complete his wish of watching a horror movie in the basement and so I thought to make a story on it.
I am still developing my skill of writing horror stories.. Just tell me where I can improve or any tips for mee!!?

That was for sure an amazing horror story! Idk why... but I can't write a horror story. You're lucky :) And yes, you've done a great job. Keep it up <3

  • Hahahahahahahha so it wasn't a dream after all. Loved your story!

This is absolutely fantastic, it's suspenseful, and I really liked your storytelling. It's a somewhat mentally unsettling story that stays with you for a long time, especially when you find yourself alone in such a place. I also found the ending brilliant. Very well done! ✨👍
