"Don't Breathe 2" is a follow-up to the highly successful 2016 horror-thriller, "Don't Breathe." Directed by Rodo Sayagues and produced by Sam Raimi, the film stars Stephen Lang in the lead role of Norman Nordstrom, also known as "The Blind Man." The movie takes place several years after the events of the first film and follows Norman as he lives in an isolated cabin with a young girl named Phoenix (Madelyn Grace), who he has taken in as his own daughter.
The film opens with a flashback that sets the stage for the story to come. We see Norman living a seemingly normal life with his family, who are killed in a tragic accident. We then cut to the present day, where Norman is now living in seclusion with Phoenix. Their peaceful existence is soon disrupted when a group of dangerous kidnappers breaks into their home and takes Phoenix.
Norman, who is a highly skilled combat veteran, must use all of his abilities to rescue Phoenix from the kidnappers. As he hunts down the group, he discovers that they have a connection to his past and that their motives are more complicated than he originally thought.
The film's plot is a classic revenge story, and it is executed well. The tension is high, and the action is intense, with several standout moments that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. The film also does a good job of exploring the complex relationship between Norman and Phoenix. Norman sees Phoenix as his own daughter, and their bond is one of the central themes of the movie.
Stephen Lang delivers a fantastic performance as Norman, bringing a level of intensity and gravitas to the role. He is a force to be reckoned with, and his portrayal of a blind man who is also a lethal fighter is both convincing and impressive. Madelyn Grace also gives a strong performance Phoenix, bringing a sense of vulnerability and innocence to the role that makes her character all the more sympathetic.
The film's visuals are also noteworthy, with Sayagues using a lot of closeup shots to create a sense of claustrophobia and tension. The cinematography is excellent, and the use of lighting and color is also well done. The film's sound design is also worth mentioning, with the use of sound effects and music adding to the film's suspenseful atmosphere.
However, despite the film's strengths, it does have a few weaknesses. The film's villains, for instance, are underdeveloped and lack nuance. They are mostly one-dimensional, with their motives being driven by greed and selfishness. This makes it hard to care about their fate or to feel any real sense of danger when they are on screen.
Additionally, the film's ending is somewhat unsatisfying. Without giving too much away, the final confrontation between Norman and the kidnappers feels rushed and somewhat anticlimactic. While the film does a good job of building tension and suspense throughout its runtime, the ending feels like a missed opportunity to deliver a truly satisfying payoff.
Overall, "Don't Breathe 2" is a solid horror-thriller that delivers plenty of suspense and action. The film's central performances are excellent, and the visuals and sound design are impressive. However, the film's villains lack depth, and the ending feels somewhat underwhelming. Despite these flaws, "Don't Breathe 2" is a worthy follow-up to its predecessor and will appeal to fans of the first film and horror-thriller enthusiasts alike.
